I thought that the third movie was the best one of the three. I read the books when they came out MANY years ago (1975?) and was always a fan of Ludlum.

I have not seen the third, but I enjoyed the first two immensely and the books were a staple growing up!!

But the books had next to nothing to do with the movies! The Bourne Identity was the closest, but was still way off from what was written by Ludlum. The Supremacy wasn't even close.

However, I thought the movies were better than the books. There, I said it.

Also, Alec Baldwin was a better Jack Ryan than Harrison Ford. Ben Affleck is actually promising...but Sum of All Fears was as loose an interpretation of a book as I've seen in years.

Both versions of the Bourne story have been very well written, so I have not thought that one was better than the other...

I also liked Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan... and to see Harrison Ford play Jack Ryan in Patriot Games (which is set 5-10 years before Hunt for Red October) was scary... In fact, I don't think that Jack Ryan at the end of the series (The Bear and the Dragon) is as old as Harrison Ford looked in Patriot Games... Harrison Ford also sounded like a whiney little b#*#@ in Clear and Present Danger...

No wonder Tom Clancy was annoyed at Hollywood...

Translating a book written in the early 70's would be very tough and anyway it's rare that a movie is ever translated straight over from the book. Good examples of this are the Stephen King movies that he's been very involved in, they follow the story line of the book VERY closely and IMO, they suck. It's been 30 years since I read the books, so to tell the truth I don't even remember what the exact story was about. In fact, after reading all of his books they kind of all ran together anyway.:o

Do you feel better?:D

Well... I'm annoyed with Tom Clancy. His early books were pretty good, and actually got me hooked on reading--I read Hunt for Red October in 5th grade, around the time the movie came out. However, his last several books sucked such major a**. In my opinion, Without Remorse was his best writing and after that the quality of the writing and the plot went downhill.

Currently my favorite authors are Neal Stephenson and Jasper Fforde. Stephenson's recent series was rather long winded (but still good), but his best was The Diamond Age (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Diamond_Age). Jasper Fforde had me hooked with The Big Over Easy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Big_Over_Easy) and its Nursery Crime Division.

+1. Clancy keeps writing the same book over and over and over. Plus he's an idiot.

did someone already put down a clockwork orange?

if not, then mine goes to "a clockwork orange"

it was an exceptionally good book with amazing written language, the movie was a very good take on the book despite the fact that it changed the book, but what doesn't

also, catch 22 was a good movie, liked the book too.

SUPERBAD!

Watching "5 Centimeters Per Second" (Byōsoku Go Senchimētoru) right now. Although an anime, it is an excellent story about a girl and a boy, from their primary school days to adulthood in modern Japan and the choices the boy makes in the pursuit of his dreams that often leaves people that love him behind. 3 distinct chapters/timeskips in the movie. The animation is as good (realistic) as it gets.

I will look for this. I am an Anime fan. Besides Anime greats such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Tokyo Grandfathers, i also loved Jin-Roh: Wolf Bridgade. Also have you seen Samurai X?

Over Thanksgiving we rented some mindless fare - Evan Almighty. It's a cute movie. Plot line is familiar but the performances were entertaining. I always like Steve Carell.

Looking forward to I Am Legend and The Golden Compass coming out. HAs anyone seen Fred Claus? Worth seeing?

And does anyone on this forum own a Sledgehammer like Pedro?

What did you think of Mr. Brooks? I watched it a few days ago and even though it was a movie about a psychopath (or should I say psychopaths :D), in the end I liked it.

Wayne's World
...
Zelig
....
Money Pit
....

I'm trying to reconcile this list in my head. Who would like Zelig, Wayne's World and Money Pit. (The one w/ Shelley Long, correct?) Oh well, my long list would no doubt have some conundrums on there as well.

I like the way he was depicted as a perfectly normal guy, except that one glaring flaw...loved his family, worked hard, etc.

I really want to see No Country For Old Men (Javier Badem and Tommy Lee Jones - what else can you say?) and hope to see it this weekend.

Is it anything like History of Violence (a favorite movie)?

No, not really like it. Well, I guess you could find parallels if you looked.

They are both great movies.

Although I can't stand Michael Moore, I was somewhat entertained by his recent film, Sicko. I watched it a couple of nights ago at home.
