Just a reminder for those of you in, or around Pittsburgh. The Western PA Wheelmen will be holding their annual 1st day of the New Year ride. Everybody is welcome to attend (you don't have to be a member of the WPW to ride).
What: Icycle Bicycle Ride
When: Mon Jan 1 11am - Mon Jan 1, 2007 12pm
Where: REI Store in the South Side Works
412 S. 27th Street Pittsburgh, PA 15203
Description: The Icycle Bicycle Ride will start from REI in the Southside Works at 11 am on January 1. REI has said they will provide hot chocolate and coffee. The ride will start on the South Side Trail heading towards Station Square. From there as usual, the ride will wend its way around the city on trails and roads, stopping as necessary to warm up if the weather requires it. January 1st is a great day to ride city roads because they are generally empty. The length will be from 5 to 30 miles, depending on weather. The pace will be leisurely as usual. It is a ride that is suitable for all styles of bikes. This ride goes no matter what the weather In keeping with the WPW tradition even if bikes have to be pushed a ways on the South Side Trail and back to REI because the snow is up to the hubs. At the very least there will be ride up to Station Square and back. This year, because the ride starts on the South Side Trail it would be a great ride to bring young kids who could ride up and down the trail.
