Fifty Plus (50+) - Who can ride on Christmas?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Since my husband and I don't have any relatives here, we will take the tandem and ride around San Diego Bay and hopefully find someplace open to eat at Seaport Village. This has become our yearly ritual and we love it! The weather was just perfect today and tomorrow should be the same.
Merry Christmas everyone -- hope you get all the bike toys you wished for!

Don't know about Christmas, but I got out for a short ride today. The weather here was pretty good, not perfect but good, at 43 & sunny. My favorite riding temps are the low-50s so this was pretty close.
Started testing my new, low-end Terry saddle, that I picked up cheap from someone who didn't like it.

I plan to squeeze in a Christmas ride but it must be in the early morning before we join up with friends for Christmas dinner. Unfortunately, it will not be San Diego weather...more likely mid 30's with 15mph wind. At least it will be dry (I think).

My kids like to sleep in so I plan to ride first thing in the moring if its not too cold. Plan B is to ride late in the afternoon.
Weather permitting, I'm planning to do about 10 miles or so. . . . .in a Santa suit!

Family activities (mostly involving absurd quantities of unbelievably good food) and a forecast calling for rain all day long tells me there will be no Christmas riding for me. But I did get in a hilly 55 mile ride Saturday and a hard 1-1/2 hours of MTB singletrack Sunday. Wednesday or Thursday will probably be my next opportunity for a significant ride.

If the rain ends here, as advertised, I'll be doing a Christmas ride.

I rode today and hopefully I'll ride tomorrow. Had to call my wife today to pick me up because I got lost and had no light and it was night time by the time I could find a phone to call. Plus I was freezing. The weather changes rapidily in Wisconsin once the sun goes down.
We were one and a half hours late to her brothers christmas dinner and boy she was pissed.
We've been married close to 31 years so she has come to expect the occasional inconveniences caused by my bicycling.:-) I rode 50 miles yesterday and 38 miles today.
Trying to read a map in the darking light is a *****. I vow never to ride without a light again.

I wish I could have ridden today. Nice weather here. However, I did an endo over the handlebars last Sunday, landed on my head and fractured a bone in my neck. I'm OK, walking around and such, but got a pain in my neck and shoulders that will probably take another couple of weeks before I can go out again.
Gonna have to watch how much I eat this Holiday season....
My wife and I used to live in SD for 16 years. The weather in SD can be fabulous this time of year and most of the time. We are riding our tandem on Christmas around the San Francisco Bay Area Peninsula. We were cycling today and we did not see many other cyclists and only one tandem. The temperature should be in the 50s. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

We've got the same front settled in on top of us. Rained all day yesterday but I was in the kitchen helping to get our 10 fed before Christmas Eve services.
Today is supposed to clear but blowing out the rain are winds predicted between 25 - 35 MPH... I may get a ride in...

I could ride today but I won't...had the family over for Christmas Eve dinner last night and plan on just being a lazy bum today.

Well, I did a Christmas ride. To work where I am playing with an animation that is strictly for recreation. No work work today. It's raining, 36 degrees and none of the kids were out riding their new bikes. The blessing was that it was a tailwind all the way, and I prepared for the ride with a nice slice of apple pie and some ice cream. Now I'm here, warm and getting dry.
God Bless you James Brown. Owwww!
Merry Christmas!

James Brown played in my hometown this summer. Tickets were impossible to get. The show was almost sold out before the tickets went on sale. ( The theater members bought most). "Like suga and spice". He was a treat to watch.

I road on three days straight (Sat, 16th-Mon 18th) last weekend. My payback was to come down with a really bad winter chest cold on Tuesday followed by a 101F fever by Friday. So I'm just resting hoping to get out and ride before this weekend. Besides, its raining out today anyway.
Not me. I'm sittin' here all bloated up like an anaconda after swallowing a bush deer. It'll take three months to work it's way thru...

It did clear today, and I did my ride, 25.1 miles back and forth across the Joe Pool dam, with a 30+ mph quartering crosswind. The westbound trips back across the dam, against that northwest wind, were brutal, but I enjoyed my ride, and crowds just weren't a problem (two pedestrians and no cyclists spotted).
BURN, BABY, BURN (talking to my legs as I rode westbound across that dam).

I just got back from a 6 mile test ride on the new bike... very nice, comfortable ride and every thing seems to be working. Didn't see any other bikes but a few walkers out and about. Also saw a large flock of Great Egrets here for the winter and the usual hawks and eagles.

Christmas Day, in the rain, 67 F, in Florida on a trail, on a new Treck Madone.
It is a very good feeling.

I'm chief Cook and Bottle Washer here at Hasienda Coyote and couldn't get out on two wheels. Mother-in-Law has had a rough year and so we're feeling collectively mortal and hovered nigh the place and had dinner and all the rest. I cooked. No matter; got out today.

I got out for a nice 30 mile hilly ride here in the SF Bay Area with another member of our local ride group. Not too chilly climbing, but the descent back to the flat lands cooled off a bit. All in all a pretty nice Christmas day.

20.2 on Christmas and only 10.4 today. 34 degrees and dry - this time of year every day in Michigan without snow and ice on the roads is a bonus.

a metric century today... cloudy and foggy, but the sun shone through near the halfway point... hardly anyone out on this nice day. Then it opened up (started to rain) which got old in a hurry-- did the last 8 miles in a drizzle. Great ride!

Rode 10 miles on a chilly but sunny 24th...Christmas was too cold and rainy for cycling but I ran a half marathon Christmas morning instead...we celebrate Christmas with all the kids on Christmas Eve and then they spend Christmas morning with in-laws or sleeping. Besides, I love running in cold, rainy weather! Frankp
Rode out to a friends place for christmas dinner. Ate what felt like 200 lbs of food and jumped on the bike and rode home-longest 12 miles of the year! I didn't realize that you could waddle on a bicycle. I swear I needed a trailer to carry my stomach. I got skid marks on my butt caused by my dragging it on the road. I could have raised my seatpost another foot and it still wouldn't have been high enough. Next holiday meal-I'm driving.

I didn't make plan A or B (riding in the morning or afternoon) so I rode 50 minutes on the trainer watching the Cowboys & Eagles football game.
