in this sort of scenario the skill of the wheel builder will make more of a difference than the actual parts. ive never ridden on weinmann, but i rode a pair of suns for a little while and they were fine.

For the bar? Gotta have Deep Vs.
AHEM, anyhow: many, many low-end-but-reputable bikes have OEM Weinmann rims. (Or at least they used to-- Alex seems to be very popular recently...) I've had several pairs of the MTB variety (model 819 I think) and haven't had any major problems.

Not the bar bike but, Deep Vs laced with aerospeed front, competition rear, to Suzue promax hubs.

deep vs are the worst. i put two dents in one in a month of regular riding.
i'd be weary of the sun m13-2 rims, i put those on my bike and a week later my sister had cancer.
besides that they've been pretty great, they've stayed true despite my 225 lb ass
yeah I am about 215 lbs
and deep vs are you on crakc the tire bead on those things fall apart so fast you might not make it to the liquor store
deep vs are junk

I have a pair of weinmann's from the 80's. They were an alright company.

I would go with something that doesn't stand out so much. Try Sun Assaults, take the stickers off. Deep V's would be your last choice when locking up for hours in a city.

My conversion actually started off with 2 DP18s, and thanks to a woman in a Mini talking on her phone, I am now minus the front one. So I replaced it on the cheap with a Sun M13-II.
They're both fine. My DP18s have stayed true FOREVER. I've only had the Sun rim on the front for about a grand, and I haven't had to true it yet.
I think they're both fine rims for not a lot of dough, but the FGG guys had some issues with the Sun, I think.
I love how Deep Vs have gone from being "the rims that can survive a nuclear blast" to being "the rims that will taco if you hit a pebble" in the eyes of this forum in, what, three months?

Gotta love how folks justify their beliefs.
Let's just all hug each other say it together:
"We don't like Deep Vs because now other people have them."

i have formulas laced to weinman dp 18s. i've had my rear for about 6 months and my front for about 2 months. no problems here. true as the day i put em on and i don't baby them, but i don't try to destroy them either. i'll hop on and off the occassional curb and ride over the occassional pothole....but i also weigh about 150 - 155 pounds. my lbs told me they've had problems with them on other bikes because they are kinda crappy builds. onetwentyeight is probably right when he says it depends more on the wheel builder. as many have stated here before, the only problem i had was cracking a locknut on the rear. if you're careful though, you can probably avoid doing that.

bar bike? shiz, get whatever is in your wallet. i ride it more than all of my most expensive bikes & have <$75 in to it.
I have never nor will ever like deep v's I am a mavic guy in general but can't justify spending 50 more bucks on my beater a few of my friends have deep vs and have had nothing but problems with them they are a cheap rim that is pinned and it has a weak tire bead that is as flimsy as a bud light can that is heir main issue in my eyes they do stay true and they can take the abuse but my worry would be with the bad tire bead on them the risk of pinch flats and tires coming off the rim on a hot summres day

bar bike = as cheap as possible

Keep in mind that the wheels you killed were also your first build. :)
yeah don't remind me the 3" dia log I hit at 30 didn't help either nor did the suv that steered me into the curb earlier this week

i think that alot of people would argue against Deep Vs being weak, **** tons of people ride them (hense the increasing hatred "nothing is is good if everyone like its") with out problems.
