Here's a tip for you, when I mounted my discs on my hub I first went to my local hardware store and bought the same size mounting bolts that came with the discs, only I used allen (hex) head bolts instead. That saves me from having to carry yet another tool in my pack when I ride. Lots of the newer multi tools have the torx wrench just for disc brake mounts but mine doesn't, so I don't have to worry about it carrying another tool. I'm sure that the hex bolts will strip easier than the torx but that's not so much of an issue when you're stranded out in the boonies somewhere. Just be sure to get the proper steel strength bolts if you do this...

My torx bolts came wrapped for extra tightness.

i dont think torx stip any easier then hex heads, and if tightness is a concern use some locktight. i think torx are probably used more for ease of manufacturing, rather then being a better type of bolt.

Actually, they provide more contact area on the tool and are "Theorhetically" better. The problem is, not a lot of people have a torx bit on their mini-tool.

Great Tip Mael.

more contact area, good point i had never thought about that. i always figured they came up with them because it would make lining the tool up with bolt easier in automated manufacturing processes. that and of course to make us all buy another set of tools.
learn somethin new eveyday :)
and still a great tip :)

yall do know you can remove torx w/ allen keys right its not recomended but if your on the trail and you dont have a torx bit well use the allen key and well locktite everything on your bike that stuff rules

Check with your disc company. I know last year I had a friend who did that and they didn't warranty any problems he had. Hayes is VERY specific about what they allow as well as the hub companies.

Out of curiousity does anybody know the correct size / threading of the allen bolts needed? Also what strength? The info would be helpful for a situation I've got on my hands.
