Christmas came and went!!! I didn't even get a chance to enjoy it really. :( I was so tired from all of the preparation the past week that I was zoned during the celebration. I feel so exausted. And bummed at the same time. That really sucks.

I feel you pizza man. Been feeling that off and on for the last week.

Oh.. and it didn't feel like christmas today for me. Woke up at 11am, ate an early lunch. Didn't think the doorbell would stop ringing. Glad my friends came by and surprised me by shooting tons of stale marshmellows at my face with homemade guns out of pvc pipe.

Tired. Feel very sad these last few days - but seeing my friends with their kids cheered me up temporarily.

This week should be better. Hope to get out on the bike this week a bit, burn out some of this bad energy and enjoy the rest of the holidays!

I had 5 days off and I feel exhausted, strung out, and am facing only 5 hours of sleep before a work day that will start with me hopelessly behind. :p I love the holidays but it is painful to be reintroduced to reality.

Just remember that everyone else above and below you is also coming back to the same "behindness." So just ease back into it, and work as hard as you can. :) And when it sucks, there's Foo. :D

Dragging today. Our daughter and husband came to visit so we ran around showing them everything (they only had 4 days). We had a great time, but it was a lot of driving, horseback riding, walking, hiking, etc, etc.

They are also on different time schedule that me - I wake up at around 4 or 5 in the morning, they around 8, but then stay up later, so I ended up not really sleeping much.

Siu, you'll feel better once the bike arrives. :)

I'm not tired. Just have stiff as wood calves. I gave them "what for" at the end of my 30 minutes on the trainer Saturday night (they'll be stronger once they recover). Every time I sit down, they sieze back up, and I have to walk around for about a minute to get them so that they don't hurt. Now I have to figure out how to do this to my quads. :D

Thanks for asking Shifty! The bike was a huge hit...he loves it! We went for a short ride around the block yesterday and he was already asking me if he could come on the group rides that I go on. :p I had forgotten until last night that I had picked up a jersey and gloves for him months ago and stashed them in my closet, so I brought those out and he was thrilled! I'm going to take him into the LBS today and ask them to make some adjustments with the fit and then I'm going to take him out on the river trail or the beach path tomorrow.

I think that the best part of all of this is that he has NEVER shown any interest in group sports or sports in general. I know that when he started school this year (we were homeschoolers) that he felt bad about that since it seemed like everyone else was into it, but still...it wasn't enough to spark an interest. He's an artist...loves to sketch, so I sent him to school with his sketch book and he would sit under a tree at lunch and draw and suddenly he had new friends seeking him out under that tree...others like him that weren't into sports and would rather sit and draw instead. Still, even with his new friends...he would sometimes make comments about it being hard that everyone was into sports when he wasn't. So last night he asked me..."mom, is cycling a sport?" and I of course said "YES!" and the smile on his face couldn't have been bigger. He said "FINALLY! A sport that I like...I think I'll do this for the rest of my life!" :D :D :D

Just the Schwinn saddle that came with the bike, though I'll check out the Jett. Angle's ok, and there's actually a slight dip in the saddle where the bits make contact, so the saddle is actually comfortable. I think it's the chamois in my shorts. Not really well-designed, so it kinda feels as though it's bunching or something the longer I ride. I need to shop around for new shorts anyway. Know any women's Lycra shorts that come down to about 4" above the knee, and have a good chamois? I'm 5'10" and women's "long" shorts tend to come only about halfway down my thigh. PM if you prefer.

I prefer the Pearl Izumi Sugar Shorts and Sugar Knickers...pretty much all I wear. The chamois in them works great for me. You can check out the other shorts here. (http://www.pearlizumi.com/shop.php?mode=category&category_id=2&type_id=2&sport_id=2) The Sugar Shorts are the shortest ones that they make, but I know that they have longer shorts with that same chamois.

As for saddles, I was using the stock Bontrager that came on my old bike but when I got the 5500, I put a Jett on it and it is really nice. I found that I didn't need as much "squish" as I thought I did on the sit bones, and this saddle with the cut-out is great for me. Of course...shorts and saddles are such a personal thing. What works for one person, might not work for the next person.

Stacey, how's the new bike? Anything done to it yet? Just a lot of nothin. Broke two nails getting the back tire off to replace the tube, and three more trying to get it back on and it's still not on! <grrrrr> The tire looks to be over an inch too small for the rim... never had this much trouble!

Pulled the headset loose to check steer tube diameter... 1 1/8".

Got calls in to both Marzocchi USA & the LBS that is Marzocchi authorized with regards to the fork. Not only is it puking oil, but there's a recall on the fork that hasen't been effected on this unit.

Found out it has the wrong rear der on it... short arm. Won't work with the 7x3 gearing. :(

So, I've done a bit, but havent got anywhere.

Stacey, as you are putting the tire on, and as you get to the last final part of it, try to "flatten" the tire by pushing down on the top of it to give more leeway for the bead. Make sure the bead is not toward the center of the rim for that tightends the "give".

I have the same problem with modern tires on my old Weinmanns. A cool tool to avoid tube pinch:

I've tried it with just a couple of pounds... just enough to give it some shape and keep it out of the bead seating area. I've tried it with the core out.

Coming off I broke one of those Bell Tire Levers that you get at xmart. Had to lever it off with # screwdrivers and WD-40!
