The stretch of bad pavement on S-22 is about 3 to 4 miles each way.
You can register on line or through a printable form from our web site.
Ride distances are approximately 35, 60 and 100 miles.
Event includes T-shirt, rest stops with fruit water, Dudley's bread, Peanut Butter and jelly, and after the ride Julian Pie and ice cream along with refreshments.

Julian, can you give us some more details please. I checked your web site - there are two loops (60 + 40 miles). Do both loops start at the same place? Is the 60 mile loop the former "Borrego to Salton Sea" ride? You mentioned some bad pavement section of about 3-4 miles. How bad is it? Can a road bike handle it without falling apart? :D Any chance the road will be fixed by Jan 27? Also, the "directions" page didn't work. Can you provide a street address that we can use for directions? Thank you!

Both loops start and finish at the same place which is the ride headquarters at Palm Canyon Resort. The address for mapping is 221 Palm Canyon Drive, Borrego Springs, CA 92004. The number of the resort for reservations is 800-242-0044.

Regarding the pavement. Yes it is rough but it is certainly doable on a road bike. It is not that long though and the rest of the ride has decent pavement.

The first loop is the same course as the Borrego to the Sea ride. The second loop only takes in a bit of the first loop so you get to see a different part of Borrego Springs.

This is a fantastic ride with great desert scenery and no stop lights and only a few stop signs.

Borrego Springs is big enough to have all the ammenities but small enough not to be an urban or suburban jungle. We feel it is the finest desert ride anywhere.

I haven't done this ride, but I've done that 3-4 mile section as part of another ride and I can vouch that it's a little bumpy but easily doable on a road bike.

Julian, I'm seriously considering this ride but due to planning for my first double, I can't decide just yet. When is the cut off date for registering? I've heard very nice things about this ride when it was Borrego to the Sea. :)

The cut off date is day of registration. You pay more and we might have to mail you your shirt. The only caveat would be if we reach our rider limit before then. If we do we will post it on our web site.

We have updated the directions page on our website. We are using Google.

For fun go to that page and click on Satellite and you wil be able to see a "jet's eye' view of the area. You can zoom in or out if you wish. Do a hybrid view and you can see roads as well. The Borrego Salton Seaway which is part of the course if very visible.

We would estimate about 3000 feet of climbing for the entire ride. Around 2000 feet for the first loop and 1000 feet for the second loop.

Hmmm....this is about two weeks out from Butterfield, so I might use it as a training ride. :) But I have to figure out if I can beg and plead with a BF member to stay at his/her place. After Stagecoach, I'm going to be on a budget! These rides and hotels cost $$$. :(

I haven't really been "Training", but I have been riding out to Midnight Ridazz from the West side and back, so I guess I could tackle the 60 mile loop OK. I did the LA River ride with no problem last year, but that was flat. Never done a road ride with much elevation - I have no idea what 2 or 3 K elevation is like on a bike.

But then again, I just built a road bike a few months ago, after riding a Mountain Bike with street tires for years.

It's time to find out what these things are all about.

I'm driving down Saturday morning. Don't know if I'm doing the Century or not - which is why I kinda like this format.

Will throw some camping gear in the car. I like sleeping under the stars in the desert. If I do the century, I just might buy a 6 pack and go hobo in the campground.

Anybody else camping?

Sorry, wrong thread, although the other one would lead me to believe the M.E. is doing this ride. Perhaps she has discovered a way to do two rides in two different places at the same time. If so, her miles ranking at BikeJournal will be unbeatable!
