I've been looking around for a new fork (1 1/8" , 80-100 mm, v-brake and disk boss) and would like to spend under $250, hopefully under $200. I don't mind buying on ebay or the good web retailers. Any suggestions on awesome deals floating around. Brands include: RockShox, Manitou, and Marzocchi.

Ideas?

What kills me is that the steerer length needed for my '00 GT frame is about 9" so most OEM and used forks have been cut too short. I might be able to find a compact headset and stem- but then the $250 would get spent outside the fork itself...

I just ordered these:

Seems solid for $228 - I thought I wanted a 90 mm, but thought the ETA feature would satisfy the climber in me.

you should have got that about a week ago when it was 150 or somthing but still a good deal.

you'll love the ETA, it will make climbing ALOT easier since it changes the bike geometry

For a few days, Jenson had the 2006 MX Comp ETA/TAS for $199.

BY changinthe the geometry, do you mean the 30 mm travel? or something else? HOw easy is it to switch back and froth from it? Hopefully I can just reach down and do it without looking at it.

I think he means the 30mm travel. The ETA is enabled/disabled by a lever on top of the left fork tube. You can lean over an flip it while riding.

Does the ETA also "bring the front wheel down"? Relatively speaking.

Does the ETA also "bring the front wheel down"? Relatively speaking.

When ETA is engaged, as the fork compresses, it stays compressed. Travel is reduced with each compression down to a minimum of 30mm, or so, causing the fork to become effectively shorter. When you disengage ETA, the fork pops back to full travel and length.

When you are climbing, the shorter fork puts your body closer to the front wheel allowing more of your weight to be over the wheel helping keep it down. The fork retains 30mm of travel so small hits are still smoothed out.
