Mountain Biking - WANTED: Mid-'80s Schwinn Sierra, High Sierra, or Cimarron

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I'm looking for a large Schwinn Sierra, High Sierra, or Cimarron from the mid- to late '80s. These had a rigid frame, horizontal top tube, forged dropouts that are horizontal in the rear, and relaxed frame angles (generally 70 degrees for both the seat and head tubes). In terms of size, a 23" frame -- the biggest they made -- would be good, as I'm 6'3" with long arms and legs.

To help you get a better idea of what I'm looking for, here's a shot of a wonderful 1984 Sierra I had until very recently (it was stolen, alas): http://velospace.org/node/1199. This is the smallest size I can use (I think it was a 22"), and one notch up would be great. Have a fondness for this particular model and year, as it has a great fastback seat lug, but am open to anything that fits the bill.

This is for a rider, not a museum bike, so the components don't have to be original or even in particularly good shape. No matter what the color or model, the paint can be in marginal and it can be a whole bike or just a frame. No cracks or serious frame rust, however, and it should come with the original fork. Would also prefer to stay away from roller-cam or U-brakes -- cantilevers are the way to go.

Thanks in advance for your help. Photographs, even fuzzy ones, would be greatly appreciated. You can reply to this post or write leightonwalter@yahoo.com.

I'm sorry your bike got stolen. I've had that happen and it wasn't cool, they never caught the thieves, they got 3 bikes and a boat motor all at once :(
this looks like it might be close

in case that big link doesn't work, its on www.ebay.com and search for item number 320064802264

you might also try your local craigslist or some used bike stores.

I just sold a Cimarron in that size. I had it for sale for ages and it was really nice too! Good luck, it was a very nice bike but way to big for me.

I have a 22 inch frame and fork only. Chewed up a bit, but would build up to a good bike. PM me if interested. Probably would send it for the shipping costs.

Sorry to bump up this old post, but I too am looking for this bike. I'm only 5'10", but want a larger one for the comfort ride. Something with a 30" stand over height would be good. It's important to me to have the squared off fork like the one shown above has. I live in Germany, but it can be sent through the post office for the same shipping as anywhere else (APO military p.o. box). I found one in mint condition on Craigslist, but the guy wasn't willing to ship it. It was like new for $150

Raffi -

I am 5'10" with a 30" inseam and I ride two older rigid frame Giant Iguana. The 18" frame has a 29" standover and it is a very comfortable ride for me.

If you run across one, you might have a look. This is the best fitting bike frame I have ever owned.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Sorry to ressurect this thread again, but I am looking for an older sierra or cimarron as well. I'd need something in the 20"-23" inch range (im 6'1"). I'd need it shipped unless anyones in northeast pennsylvania.

Hey all,
I don't know if you've already found this, but I have one hanging in my garage that I never use. I was just thinking about moving it to a better home. My wife got this for me at a Jersey Shore bike shop probably 16 years ago! At the time we lived in MD just north of Towson and I rode every weekend at the reservoir. I don't think I've ridden this since! I dont' know what size it is. I'm 6'0 tall if that helps.
I'm in Southern NJ just outside Phila. email if you're interested. jacreightoniii@gmail.com

ok, now that I've researched this some more, I'm asking for $200 plus shipping for this.
