Southern California - Used bike resources/shops in/around 91745 area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums and recently started looking for a bike to commute/exercise with but have no idea where to even start looking for one in my area aside from only being here about 6 months.

I'm looking for a light lugged vintage single speed road bike for about $200 or so, I actually just missed a perfect one on ebay and realized I wouldn't know where else to find one. Sorry for sort of turning this into a wanted ad but if anyone has any leads (!) :D

I kind of wanted to just get one and ride but I wouldn't mind doing a little work on the bike or converting and cleaning if necessary, but it would be my first time doing this type of work so I wouldn't want to tackle anything I'm not able to. Are there any cool local shops I can go for this? I found two bike shops driving around but they don't deal vintage.

Thanks

If you can make it to the Hollywood area, give these guys a call and see if they might have something for you:

http://www.bicyclekitchen.com/

Here's part of their story which I'm just copying from their homepage:

How does it work?

The goal of the Bicycle Kitchen is to help YOU get a bike that you LOVE up and running. You can bring in a bike of your own or select a bike from our “stable” (recycled from the community) and build it as a “project”. We do not fix nor build your bike for you. We work with you, side-by-side, and TEACH you how to do it yourself. D.I.Y. – yo!
We offer you workshop space, tools, and bike stands. We also offer you volunteer mechanics, recycled parts and basic new parts to help you build or fix your bike. Be prepared to enjoy the journey, to improvise, and to perhaps make a run to your local bike shop for a missing part.

Place sounds awesome, though I've never been there, anyone been there?

Thanks ronjon, that place does sound awesome indeed. I'll have to plan a trip down there before I get too busy again and come back here to brag about my "new" bike :D
