...or not quite. Just spotted this one this morning when grabbing some food. Anyone ridden one of these before?

Amazing how he completely missed the downtube when trying to lock up.

Yeah, I've seen her lock up before....she's pretty cute. She's an early 30's businesswoman, rolls on that with her suit on. Maybe the next time I see her, I could spit some really corny game about locking up her bike properly.

I just don't really get the 24" front wheel. Doesn't matter, the bike rules.

haha it took me a second to realize what was going on in that pic. the other night i watched my friend lock up in a way that let missed his entire frame and i waited till we had walked about 30 feet to say something. his bike definitely would've gotten stolen. i definitely locked my bike up and left the keys in the lock...luckily my bike was still there when i got back but i felt like a total idiot.

Is it an optical illusion, or does that bike have a super tiny front wheel? Looks 24"!!!

Your eyes do not deceive you. How could you not love this bike?

terry bikes are women-specific design. many bike manufacturers of wsd bikes feel that in order to have smaller frames that still handle well, a 24" front wheel has to be employed. i agree.

my old roommate has a 48cm terry touring bike with a 24" front wheel. a really sweet ride, actually. i rode it a few times on beer runs, etc. and other than being 10cm too short for me it felt great.

I think it's not just wsd, but rsd (really small design) as well. It basically allows you to do more with the design because you don't have to work around having a huge honkin wheel in the front (which extends the top tube) and messes with a bunch of other things I'm sure.

The small front wheel is to prevent toe clip overlap (hitting the front tire with your foot on a turn.)
Terry uses them on her smaller sizes.

That frame looks like it would work better with two 26' wheels. It would certainly look better.

As to the lock job, it takes the cake among those I have seen so far. I think the top spot so far belonged to the guy who locked his seatpost (bike had a QR seatpost clamp... remove post, reinsert and away you ride). Close second was the guy who locked 2 spokes of his front wheel.

i've seen all manner of dumb lock-ups at school.

the best was a dinky little plastic chain with a beefy masterlock on it. you could probably have grabbed the chain and pulled and it would have given way.

The worst lockup I've seen was when some asshat next to me locked my bike with his. I was stuck there for a couple of hours.

One day at school I locked my bike, but missed the rack. Luckily no one else noticed. I've seen other bikes with only the QR front wheel locked to the rack.

i've seen bikes with a long cable coiled just around the handlebars, in a manner that you could stretch out the cable over the bars.
qr wheels locked to the rack.

or the best one ever... cable through the fork only, not through any spokes. you could just take the wheel off, remove the cable, replace wheel, ride off. of course no one every steals those bikes, they just watch mine for when i slip up once and steal it.

my darling wife once locked her bike to one of those wooden posts that are sometimes used in pairs to support younger street trees, and have a kind of vinyl band that connects the post to the tree, which of course you can easily slide over the top of the post. she didn't have a bicyle the next day

My favorite is when folks in SF take the time to remove & lock their QR front wheel to their downtube, but don't do anything to secure their QR rear wheel.

One time I was locking the front wheel and frame of my bike to a rack when a bum who had been watching yelled, "why are you locking the front wheel, the back one is worth more?" I thought about it and realized the habit went back to when I was 14 and my front wheel was QR and my back one wasn't. That and the rear wheel is slighly more difficult to remove than the front, what with the chain and all. I'm guessing that's why people are doing that.

What about the stupid thieves that can't tell when a bike is or isn't locked properly? I once had a would be thief remove my rear wheel. I'm not sure if he thought he could get the wheel or the frame, but when he got the wheel off and realized both were secured, he ran off leaving them on the ground still secured to the rack. Haha, what a dumbass.

One day working on very few hours of sleep I walked out of an office building to find a messenger buddy standing with his hands on his hips tapping his foot and giving me a glare I'll never forget. Next I looked over to my rather sizable chain, locked around the seatpost of my carbon/ultegra racer.

Sigh.

I am ashamed to admit that I once did the same to my then new Felt F-80 in front of a coffee shop. Fortunately no one noticed and I was only inside for a couple of minutes. The lock was only through the down tube. I FELT really dumb. Never again!!!

Once I saw a full CF Trek (Madone??) locked to a bike rack at a grocery store (the infamous Wicker Park Jewel on Milwaukee/Paulina) with just the cutest, itsy-bitsy, floppy, little cable lock around the top tube. I was really tempted to break it just to make a point and wait for the "owner" to come out.

I rock this orange metal rubber-coated chain that people always assume is made out of plastic. (I would think they also assume I'm ******** ********.)

You're kidding right? It was left like that overnight? Put a lock on that thing and leave a note, she is a cute chick after all.

Not an overnighter. I was surprised it was still there, though. I get the urge to leave lots of suggestions on bikes to help them out, but it draws attention to them and in some situations that could really suck.

****!! Some ******-nozzle did that to me this fall at school. Fortunately it only went through the brake cables, not the frame, so I managed to free myself by taking off my brake temporarily.

But it really pissed me off, made me late to class. Closest I've ever been to vandalizing someone's whip right then...

Some drunk idiot did this to me with what appeared to be a rental bike and a cheap combination lock. I borrowed a hammer from the coffee shop down the street and hammered the lock till it broke.
