Touring - shower pass touring jacket - opinions wanted

I've read some great replies about the elite jacket, but does anyone have any experience with the "touring jacket?"

I don't know the brand, but I'll tell you the features that mine has, and then you can tell what I might think.

Must have:

pit zips
Gortex or similar
Scotchlite or similar
inside zipped pocket (MP-3 player)
waterproof zippers
extra long on back
bright colour

The pants are quite stiff...I really only find them comfortable if I'm wearing tights, otherwise they rub against my knees and bug me (but don't chafe). They also make a lot of noise, but the temp regulation and dry factors are quite good. Can't comment on the jacket as I use the elite.

One of the guys at my LBS and I hemmed and hawed over the Showers Pass Touring jackets they got in and their last two remaining Burley Rockpoints. They are almost identical, though the Burley seemed to have longer pit zips and better fabric, while the Showers Pass had a button-up tail and a strap to hang a blinky. In the end, for the same size, the Burley seemed to fit us both a little better, more room in the chest, so we opted for those.

If you don't mind, how big is your chest and torso (inches) and what size jacket did you get? My Lbs doesn't carry either jacket so I'm unable to try them on.

48" chest, I wear an XL for those brand of jackets. Gotta watch some of the brands, where an XL is more like a L

They have a touring jacket?


I used the elite jacket on tour. The reason I like it is that it looks decent off the bike as a regular jacket. The only thing (as far as looks) I would like to see is a Velcro closure to flip up the tail while off the bike.

I would also like to have side pockets and / or a rear pocket that has easier access.

For what they charge, it really should include a hood. You can get one but it cost extra and is velcroed on.

The jacket will keep you dry on and off the bike. It is made of eVent fabric, which beats Gortex hands down.

This is a fantastic jacket and aside from my bike, is the best money I spent on cycle gear.

I would go with yellow. The more visible the better.

And yes there is room for layering. During the winter I wear a short sleeve jersey, long sleeve jersey, a sweat shirt and the jacket. I probably have room for a couple other layers too. I bought a large and a large in other clothing, usually just fits me.

He did mention it but was not exactly correct in the name. It is Showers Pass not Shower Pas.

Yes to both. This time of year I wear a polypro base layer and a merino wool mid layer under them, which works for me down to 15F. Below that I just add another wool or fleece layer.

I just asked for comments about the Touring jacket over on the Commuting Forum. I got the 2007 Double Century jacket as a gift and it is made of the same ARTEX fabric as the Touring. I'm a bit concerned about the light weight fabric and whether it would hold up for off the bike use around town and for day hiking. I'm thinking of exchanging the DC for the Touring because of the absence of pockets in the former. Not sure how ARTEX compares with the EVENT fabric of the Epic or the PERTEX fabric of the old Century. Comments?

Yeah I saw that deal on Lickbike. They only have XLs, I think that will be too big for me or I'd order one from them. Can't beat the price. From what I've gathered from searching online, the Rock Point jacket is not being made anymore. Btw, I ordered some chainrings thru lickbike and didn't have any problems. I've decided to throw the hammer down on the Showers Pass Touring jacket.

I have ordered a lot of shorts from them, mostly when they were Jackson and Gibbons, and they are a great company. It sure seems like you would be getting a lot for $99.00.

Yes, many times! They also have about the lowest prices on Brooks saddles. Good service and reasonable shipping.

Revieved my Showers Pass touring jacket a couple of days ago. It hasn't rained so I can't comment on the breatheabilty while riding. But, the jacket is very nice. I wanted a jacket that I could wear off bike as well, I can and will with the touring jacke b/c it's not too form fitting. There is plenty of room to layer. The color is blue which I like b/c it's not too stand outish as an every day piece of clothing. Lots of reflective taping on arms and back. The sleeves are long enough for comfortable cycling. The under arm zippers are huge...compared to the other rain jacket I have. I'll give another update when I get a chance to ride in the cold rain that is approaching my corner of the world.

You should be here in Pittsburgh, plenty of rain over the past four days. 54F and rain. What a waste of good weather.

Yeah I guess that is what you want in a jacket that you will wear on a bicycle in inclimate weather. ;) I think the yellow still looks decent off of the bike.

I just received mine also. Haven't ridden with it yet but seems very well made. I am 6'05" 230 and the xl is almost too big. The sleeves are very long indeed. I am glad they don't make a tall size because it would haev been too long.
