Does anyone else have a problem with creaking on a superlight? Now matter what I do I can not find it. I have replaced the bottom bracket to no avail. I have taken it out and regreased it, still nothing. This time I took it out and wrapped it with teflon tape, then greased the frame threads. Still nothing.

My bike is an 03 superlight with a raceface signature xs bb with an fsa carbon pro crank.

Appreciate any advice. I am finally ready to rule out the bb though.

Keep looking.

"Creaks" on a bicycle, regardless of cause, almost always seem to sound like they are coming from the bottom bracket area. Other good areas to look are the seatpost clamp and seat clamp area, and the handlebar clamp area.

I already greased the seatpost, first time I have ever done this. Do I need to grease the seatpost clamp?

My next step is probably going to be greasing the chainring bolts.

Pedal threads have already been greased as well as the crank bolts and the splines. I hate creaks!!!!!!!

it might be the piviot points, sometimes they can make sounds. Don't grease them but clean them and put it back together and that might cure it.

Try cleaning the seatpost and the tube and see if it changes. I have to keep my seatpost clean or it creaks. If I grease it, it creaks immediately. Easy to do and worth a try anyway.

could it be coming from within the pedal? I had that problem once with my platform pedals.....

To be honest I am not sure what bike you mean by superlight (Merlin makes an ultralight ?) Any way, pull out you seat post and shine a flash light in there and see if there is a welded in insert. These are usually welded at the top only and will creak like mad. The only solution is to drip heavy lube into the seat tube and then turn the bike upside down and let it get between the insert and the outer tube.
Have you retightened the cranks, the splined ones tend to loosen after the first few rides.

Thanks for the help everyone. By Superlight I mean the Santa Cruz Superlight, sorry about that.

I have been checking my cranks after every ride, they are staying tight. As for the pedals they are new, so "shouldn't" be the problem.

The Superlight has an extreme issue with rear swingarm sway. I own one myself, and although I've had it about a year, I have no creaking at all. However, I have noticed the massive amounts of sway. Your creaking could be coming from within the pivots. I always had my main pivot cap loosen and fall off on the drive side. I fixed it by putting teflon tape around the threads. As far as finding the creak, I would do one thing at a time so you isolate it. Everyone else's suggestions are good, so try them all. Last of all, try giving SC a call.

Thanks everyone. I removed the rear shock mount and cleaned it and applied a thin layer of grease. The creak is finally gone. Thank God!!!!!

My next step was going to be throwing the bike over the hill and starting over!
