Thanks guys :) It's going to take a few more days to finish building up. I'll be getting the wheels hopefully tomorrow. I also need to change the rear brake hose, and bleed both brakes (hate doing that btw).

So how long until you machine a rear triangle out of stainless steel? I've heard that really increases the performance. ;)

I did hear that too. First I have to ask my dad though, he knows that kind of stuff

So I know zilch about Giants. How long has that suspension design been around?

I am considering a Banshee Pyre which uses a very similar design. There's little feedback to be found on those however, so I'm anxious to hear your ride impressions.

Flak

Why the new bike? Pyre looks like it will climb better than the sx trail?

You know if you get a bike that supposed to be able to go up hills, you'll have no excuse when you get off and push like me

I just had a quick look at the Banshee, it looks very similar indeed.

I believe Giant's first Maestro design bikes came out in 2005. I have done a lot of reading about it, and it seems to be one of the most efficient designs. Here (http://www.suspensionmadeharmonious.com/suspension_comparison.html) is an interesting comparison. The bad, it's at Giant's site, and we wouldn't know how much biased it is. The good, all the rider opinions I have read so far confirms what was written about Maestro.

I think my initial thoughts on the design will be quite limited, since this is my first FS, and I will only be able to compare it to a hardtail. Already I am dieing to try out the bike, but I'm afraid it will be a while as it is below freezing out there. It will be more like a torture than being fun. :o

WOW!!!, now thats a beautiful frame, you made me love Giant Anthem again. XD, damn that frame looks sweet, who do you order it from? Too bad my dealer doesnt import in a Giant Anthem Team frame, really dig the frame, by the way - how do you get your hands on the black fox fork? -

Oh and Low Cel whatcha mean by using stainless steel on the rear triangle (you are talking bout the silver triangle rite? Not the swingarm, is that correct?)

Basically I am now copying my Anthem geometry and transforming it into 3D, post some pics as soon im finished, too bad I cant get my Inventor welding to work properly :(.

By the way, how Maestro rides you ask? I can answer you that, have been riding my Anthem since my wound healed (feel guilty on not riding my old bike :( ). Anyway, the Anthem is hell fast, my Anthem weights at around 12-13kg (26 - 28 pounds ) the weight is fair though, even at lower PSI (I accidently released my shock air and doesnt have a shock pump, haha) the rear suspension movement is very minimal even at lower PSI (when seated), downhill is bomb, the lower center of gravity makes the bike feel stable while turning sharply. Anyway I have ridden for about 60++ miles and I love my bike :)

Hope you enjoy yours Erhan :)

P.S : Internet connection seem fast so far

Thanks. A friend in Taiwan got the frame from a Giant dealer, and I found the Fox on ebay.

erhan's complete front wheel weighs less than one of my rims.

Flak, the Pyre would replace my 04 Enduro as an "XC" bike. But I'm only half serious about it right now.

Looks good...what's wrong with a 5.7lb FS frame? Not the lightest but still pretty good...but what's with the 'Anthemterm'?

The wheels look pretty sweet!

That's "Anthem TEAM" ;)

5.7 is pretty heavy for a 3.5" travel bike (you can get 5-6" at the same weight), but it's pretty common knowledge that the Giant frames are not the lightest around. Sounds like the suspension more than makes up for it though.

12-29-06, 10:00 PM
well here is what I found out, a Turner Flux which is designed for a XC/XC Marathon bike weights the same as Giant Anthem (3.5inch rear travel) frame, which made me wondering, is Giant using heavier metal or Turner made their Flux alu thinner? And since Giant frame weights almost the same as Turner Flux (4 inch rear travel) does this mean its as durable as Flux?

Oh yeah and I think the biggest problem with VPP bikes is that it requires a lot of metal. So maybe thats why the weight is a bit heavy.

I love your wheels man, and your bike just look cool. How much did you bought your frame???

never - a few 2006 frames that I've seen were 150-170 grams lighter (same size). I was just hoping mine would be similar too, but it seems like they have added some weight to the 2007 models. I saw a 2007 at mtbr weighing 5.66 lbs. No big deal though ;)

wheelhot - It cost me about $1000 including shipping.

ViperZ - I ordered the rims from the US, the hubs, and the spokes from Germany. I had them built at a local shop. I was going to have them built by Tune, but not doing so saved me about $180 (including all shipping costs).

WOW!!!, nice component man, I never thought I would see a 10kg Anthem and its a 20" frame, just fantastic man, enjoy your ride. Anyway do you know that your bike is lighter then Adam's Craig Anthem Advance bike? his rig is 11kg (at least that's the weight stated on MBAction). Btw how much did you spend on the whole bike (including the frame) if possible list out the component prices like how you list your rig. Damn Im jealous :)

Oo and I see you use bolt on to shave weight further, radicall

Yup, hmm Imagine whats his bike weight if he uses, Magura Marta SL discs instead of Marta's.

Oh wait a minute, how the hell did he get a Magura Marta caliper with Hope rotors? Do magura sell their calipers only? And is your rotor 07 or 06? Looks like 06 and is Hope rotors actually light? because their design looks like it requires more metal

LowCel
12-30-06, 07:56 PM
wheelhot - you can use different rotors with different brakes. I use avid rotors and magura rotors with mine. As for the marta vs marta sl there isn't much weight difference, definitely not enough to justify the extra cost.

Yeah, the additional 50 -75g weight loss for the set would be insane!

oh kay, but I know you can get different brands rotor but do Magura sell their caliper only? (without the rotor)

I'm not sure but it actually feels heavier. I guess I need to get a digital scale, or ask if they have in the shop to find out the real weight.

erhan
12-30-06, 09:21 PM
And is your rotor 07 or 06?
2005

Looks like 06
No, 2005!

and is Hope rotors actually light?
89 grams each

because their design looks like it requires more metal
middle section is aluminum

do Magura sell their caliper only? (without the rotor)
I don't know, but it wouldn't be much cheaper without the rotor.

wheelhot
12-30-06, 10:23 PM
so you actually bought a complete set of Magura Marta's discs and you bought a Hope discs afterwards? Why? (just wondering)

MattP.

The Hope rotors are light. He bought the Maguras, then (I'm assuming) bought the Hope rotors afterwards, the rotors only, not the whole system.

wheelhot
12-30-06, 10:53 PM
yeah, and he got some spare rotors just in case :)

I wish there was that much difference. My marta sl's (front and back) weigh a whopping 14 grams less than my marta's. The sl's even have trimmed hoses, the hoses on the non-sl's are factory length.

I was just guessing based off of the claimed weights because I only have the SL. And each actually weighed 5-10g more than they were supposed to (total weight was 670-something).

So essentially if you're counting the weight, why bother with the SLs...I only got the SLs because they were brand new and cheap off of eBay.
