All the buds I hang with normally on New Years are all saying they're going to stay at home with their families. Actually one guy started it - and the others are following suit. No one else I know is doing anything. Its strongly looking like I'm going to be at home alone with a bottle of bubbly. This is just not cool. Any ideas?

Ravenmore - there's still time left to figure out where Team Discovery is having their party. Crashing it could be pretty exciting no?

ravenmore
12-28-06, 10:23 AM
yeah - there are the bars. Gawd awful expensive option but might be a though. The bar district in Austin is outrageous on New Years. Usually $20 or more just to get in. Drinks $10 or more ea.... ect.. Traffic is a pita too. I could stay in a hotel for the night. Hotel's down there are pretty pricey though.. Hmmmm.

Sorry, guess I'm whining... :)

I'm in! Just make sure you have lots of coffee for January 1!

Shall we bring our bikes? And have a rolling Foo Party? :D

[NOTE: I'm actually trying to get a group ride for BF'ers together here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=223022). Just a fun ride, saving the serious ride for another time. I just think it'd be cool to have a Foo ride where no one gets dropped, and we can socialize a little bit, maybe stop somewhere for coffee and pie. If the first one goes well, it'd be cool to turn it into a standing ride, like, say, the second Saturday of each month.

Any other Foo'ers hookin' up for similar rides where they live?

Pack a backpack with enought stuff to get by for 24-48 hours and fly to NewYork City. Just wander the streets taking in the atmosphere then get back to airport and fly home. Had a buddy in college who did this several times. Once to NYC, once to Chicago.

compared to NYC that's DIRT cheap. one reason why i started doing things with friends either at someone's apartment, or we went out to one friend's family beach house in the Hamptons.

fwiw - New Years is really lame.

Oh I'll bet. New York, LA, and Miami are probably nutz. Point is I always like hanging at a friends for New Years rather than $300 on parking, club cover, and a few drinks. Plus be stuck if I'm too drunk to drive (or pay more money for a cab. Have done both. Heh - slept in my car one night...) I've just gotten to where all of my friends are married w/kids. They just don't do things single folks (like me) do anymore.

maybe you need to branch out and get a few different friends? once people start families it's hard to get them out of the house. it's generally (not always) when the group starts going their own ways and "hanging out" seems to disappear altogether. same thing is happening to my group of friends as well.
