Mountain Biking - Know anything about a 91 Yakota Yosemite ?

I have this Bike I was thinking of selling but infortunatly I am not sure what to ask for it or if there would even be a market for it.
I know A Little about the Bike :

Yokota Yosemite 1991.
White, electric blue and a bit of Yellow
Bikes pretty light
Seat (uncomfortable..for a woman)
Tires need replaced
The Condition is excellent...never really rode it a whole lot..trails mostly..never been "wrecked"
Shimano Deore Rapid Fire racing gears..shifter
NO SHOCKS
Fast release Pedal clips ? / those cage looking thingies (forgive me)
Had John Tomac handle bar extensions added....

Not sure of the size of the bike ( will measure it later) but I am pretty sure it is a Mans bike..I am really tall ( 6"1) and a girl so when I went looking I was "told" that this would be a good bike for me. I didn't know.
Now I think back, I am fairly certain that the individual I bought it off of just saw an opportunity to unload it..oh well..young, stupid and a pocket full of cash.

ANYHOW..........if anyone could help me in estimating what something like this may or may not be worth I would be grateful ! Thanks :D By the way NO I didn't steal this Bike. I just bought it a long time ago with limited knowledge and I was just debating if I should keep it or sell it.

welcome to BikeForums. Not fimilar with the brand, but sounds like it's a mountain bike from the description. I'm going to move this thread over to our mountain bike forum where you might be able to get some better information from those who know.

As far as making it fit better, changing out the saddle and getting a different stem may be all you need to have a much better fitting bike for you.

I remember the Yakotas! Surprisingly good handlers for being a fairly unknown brand. You shouldn't sell it - you should put a lady-friendly seat on it and go ride! :D

If you're serious about selling it, you might get $100 if you replace the tires.

Yokota Yosemite ? Never heard of one, she should get more then a $100 for it. Unless it is a old junker.

Yakota was popular around 1989-1992. The company changed their product name to Dirt Research and dissapeared shortly after. They were great bikes for the money.

Your bike might have some collector value to someone, but I'd have to put it's street value around $75-125, if it's in good condition.

My first good MTB was a Yokota Yosimite. I loved it,cromo full rigid. Put up a pic if you can that would help with a price.

Sorry for the late post.

Yes I own one and loved it. It was light and fast. I would think you could part out the components for more than $100 or trade it in? Mine was full STX components top to bottom something you do not see anymore.

HOWEVER:
The reason I am posting this, January of this year (2007) The aluminum handlebars snapped in 1/2 under normal riding on a street doing to this point over $10,000 worth of damage to my face.

Has anyone ever heard of this? The handlebar broke just under the goose neck.

Old aluminum bars fatigue... really, a lot of people will say any aluminum handlebar over 5 years old is living on borrowed time. I never keep a bike long enough to worry much about it.

Sure wish I would have known that before the loss of 5 teeth :(

I rode that bike hard for the last (about) 15 years without much more than the chain falling off.

I had both a hardtail and road bike by Yakota in the late 80's. Nothing special about either one, just decent cro-moly frames from Taiwan and good bang-for-the-buck components. Go ride a new Hardrock/Rockhopper and you will quickly see the difference. If you get $100., consider yourself lucky as I see many of the early hardtails on Craigslist listed at $75-$100. in excellent condition. If you want a casual urban/street bike, keep it. If you plan on riding any trails, sell it.

Aluminum? Fatigue? Who would have known. :rolleyes:

I have a yokota now...Its such a sick bike!

I have 1400 dollars invested in my Yokota Yosemitie, and it rides almost as good as new. I wouldnt sell it for 1000.

I rode many sick trails on my yokota yosemitie comp. Unless you rode my bike on a trail, I'd suggest you zip it, because your opinion really is off base; my bike shreds.
