Tegaderm

Anyone know where I can get this? I've been using the J&J Advanced Healing pads on this road rash, but they're too small. I already called CVS and they don't have the Tegaderm. :(

I believe Nexcare is 3M's brand of the over-the-counter version of Tegaderm. I have a box of Nexcare "Absolute Waterproof Premium Adhesive Pads (Hopsital Name: Tedaderm + Pad)." I think I got 'em at Rite-Aid.

Although, not sure how big they come. The ones I have are 2-3/8" x 4".

I was looking online earlier and the Nexcare 3m Tegaderm comes in 4 x 4.75 which would be great because these 3 x 2.25 are too small...just need a bit bigger.

Rite Aid, ask the pharmacist, sometimes it's kept behind the counter. I tried it on my last crash (not yesterday's) a couple of months ago, but didn't like it that much. I always seem to heal up quickest, when I leave everything uncovered, just keep it clean.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but is there a shelf live to Tegaderm? I scar pretty badly and if/when I ever go down I want to be sure I have the best scar defense ready and waiting.

Tons of online medical supply places carry it. Do a google. Some have a lot better pricing than others, free shipping, etc. So look at a few sites to see who has the best deal.

I got it at Rite Aid, and it is branded as Nexcare as mentioned above. I will say, however, that my road rash healed up nicely with a nonstick pad and Neosporin, changed every morning. Make sure to watch the tegaderm because if you have an infection, it will breed the bacteria. In other words, make sure it's clean before you put the tegaderm stuff on.

on a side note about scaring, apparently my body doesn't know when to stop producing scar tissue and because of that even small incisions that were stitched for a week to 10 days (or what ever the doc orders) can cause wide elevated scars. When I was 19 I was diagnosed with a melanoma on my right arm, the following removals of other questionable moles left me with 5 sizable scars. Even had a several of the original scars removed by a plastic surgion with the aim of reducing the scar size but with very minimal results. It took 5 years after that summer's scar for me to rediscover the love of the outdoors and cycling. :) Though the two scars behind my knees have been known to cause some trouble from time to time when I've been mashing too big of gear or sprinting too much.

yeah, I found the OTC tegaderms too small. You can piece them together, but they leak.

You can find larger sizes online. There are nursing supply houses that have them up to 8x10. Hope you aren't that bad off.

I normally keep a supply, but I don't skate as much as I used to, and the last crash wiped my stock out. Pic is three minutes after a 30 mph crash. Couldn't stay on the plastic palm sliders, and ground off my forarms pretty bad.
