Please help name the trail system. Even if you don't live there it will be connected to the national trail system.

I remember responding to a forum post a few years back. The guy was going to be spending 3 weeks on a business assignment in Dubuque......so since it was Iowa, he was going to bring the fixie. I remember telling him to bring all his gears and get ready to climb.

I always laugh when I hear the Iowa is flat bit :)

If this area is anywhere near Latitude 39' 50" north , longitude 98' 35" west. it could be Heart of the US Bike Trails.

The problem with this one is Iowa is NOT ****ING FLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, the railroad tracks are not totally straight, nor are the rail trails & Egypt is the wrong climate to grow corn in. But I didn't know until now that there was a town called Bum**** in Egypt. Ever been there Roody? What's it like? Good place to ride?

Actually I am not the one asking for the trail to be named or renamed. If you read the information in the link I provided you'd know. But let me guess, you didn't bother did you?

Why not “Central Iowa Bicycle-Pedestrian Trails”. Maybe dull, but it nicely describes the trail system.

It may be true that Iowa and Kansas may not be “flat”, but flat can be relative. When I was growing up in Colorado, some of our Kansas relatives told us Kansas was not flat. Sometime after, they visited us and we took them on a picnic drive through the Rockies on narrow mountain roads with no shoulders and 1,000 + ft drop offs. They turned ghostly white and we never heard “Kansas is not flat” again.
That said, I would be smart enough to bring a multi-geared cycle for riding cross country through Iowa or Kansas.

Let's touch another one. How about the "Sunshine Bikeway". Or maybe the "Show Me Bikeway". and then there's the "Relish the Cornhusker Bikeway". Or we could combine them altogether to get the "Show Me the Cornhusker Bikeway to the Sunshine over the Land of 10,000 Ponds State Bikeway".

Personally, I think "The Hawkeye Bike Trail" will win. Unless there are already two or three other Hawkeye Bike trails out there that is. I can't see the other option, the "Marion Morrison Memorial Bike Trail" working. Although I think the "Debuque Really is Flat Providing Of Course You Stay Along the River" Trail has a nice ring of truth to it.

I'll have to charge 'em for supplying a name! ;)

Kidding aside. That's a pretty extensive trail system.

Except it's not just for bicycles. I think they'll want something that catches all uses or generically labels it as a "trail".

I'm not so defensive on the "flat" reputation we have here. Yes, some of the trails we have are the "rails to trails" variety that are straight and flat and surrounded by corn and soybeans. We also have some forested, river and lake-side, hilly, curvy stuff. It's a pretty good variety for all sorts of users. We know we have a good thing. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Who is or was Steven Colbert? Is he dead? As it was already suggested a memorial bikeway means the person is dead, should be or will be soon. Bikeway may not go over well with other trail users, shouldn't it be "The Steven Colbert Memorial Trail"?
