Newport Coast Drive from PCH

I know it is roughly 1.5 miles to the top. Anyone know what percent grade it is? Just wondering how it compares to other hill rides I have read about. Thanks....

I'm pretty sure it's about 5-6%

It is the subject of many a debate but sadly it's mostly 5% with some 6% (near the top) thrown in. I always think its like 5 miles at 12%, but that's just me!

I dunno, but if you know the elevation,To calculate a percent slope, simply divide the elevation change in feet by the distance (after converting it to feet). Multiply the resulting number by 100 to get a percentage value equal to the percent slope of the hill. If the value you calculate is, for example, 20, then what this means is that for every 100 feet you cover in a horizontal direction, you will gain (or lose) 20 feet in elevation.

To make it easy, it's rise divided by run then divide that total by 100.
