If it would have been any type of bee other than honey bees it would have been cool. However honey bees are awesome and provide a great service for us. Without them our world would be completely different.

What a bunch of morons....lucky they didn't manage to burn the house down. We keep bee hives here on our property and on occasion they will swarm. No big deal getting them back. Depending on the type of bees they could be charged....

Do you eat anything? If so then bees do affect you. Bee's pollinate pretty much everything you eat, everything that the cattle eats, etc. Bee's have a huge affect on you wether you know it or not. As for the hippie comment I am nowhere near being a hippy. I just have friends that are bee keepers that have educated me on the subject.

Actually, Apples can't exist without bees, neither can many other crops we eat, like oranges and the other citrus fruits. You might not eat honey, but bees affect your diet in a lot of other ways. By the way, I am an old hippy, but that has nothing to do with my views on the environment in general, and bees specifically in reference to the thread. Those were affected by the Biotech and biology classes I've taken for my Science electives.:D

Except for the fact that this swarm lived in someone's house. A house that apparently the landlord was unwilling to fork out the bucks for to have them properly removed/transplanted. In that situation, I'd take matters into my own hands, too... though perhaps not in quite such an "explosive" manner. But, be(e) - pun intended! - it fire, pesticides or something else, I'd have gotten rid of them, too in that circumstance.

Bees make up a small percentage of pollinaters. Many other insects provide the same service. In fact there are far less wild bees today, yet we still have all the things you mentioned.

Seriously, my family has a ranch in S. Texas in Bee County. Want to know why they call it Bee County? Lots of d@mn bees. Lot of bee farmers there and lots of honey is made there. Bees also wander off and start wild colonies, a lot of times in bad places for people. I don't have a huge problem with what they did in regard to the bees(obviously not the brightest thing to do though, lol) Its not going to hurt the overall bee population one iota. Bees can also present a fatal hazard to people who are allergic. Our food supply is quite safe I assure you....

They could have forced the homeowner to take action via the local housing officials, no it is not as quick as trying to kill yourself with flammables. The bees would not have hurt anyone as long as they were left alone. Pity the putz didn't get his allergic self stung.

I've been a member of Honda-Tech (since way back in '99) from before they broke off from Honda-acura.net when I was more into cars and road racing. Lot's of good knowledgeable guys, lots more idiots.

But a funny thread nonetheless!

It looked pretty lame, even with the grill, until I realized that they were throwing buckets of fuel onto the fire.

Now that's just country genius working for you, even in the suburbs.

I'm not approving of the bucket o' fire. It's too far away from the target. Why not hit them with the stream from a can of carburetor or brake cleaner, ignited from a lighter?

I don't mind bees so much. I don't like wasps at all, and I'd be glad to slaughter every yellowjacket in the state. I've been stung by everything but killer bees, not allergic to anything that flies and stings, but gawd I hate swarms in work/recreation areas.
