Best time of my life. Great people, parties, races, and riding. SF is the ****ing ****. I'd also like to see results from the finals and the alley cats, not that the side races were all that seriously organized..

jumbo from copenhagen won and shino from tokyo came in 2nd (both riding fixed no
brakes), but as neither are from north america, the title went to sf's super
mike. kathleen from sf won for the women, ny alex won the sprints, pdx zak won
the fixie king, s murder was fixie queen, a kid from reno won the skids (Tyler #149), and
jumbo won the trackstand (i was top north american).

ok, so i'm a complete n00b. how exactly do the NACCC's work (the qualifying and the race itself)? do the world's work the same way or not?

I've only been to two NACCCs and no worlds, so I'm not sure if this is always how it is. For both NAs, there was a simple one manifest qualifier which stipulates that you do picks in order and drops in any order. There is a lot of technique involved here, namely stacking up drops for tougher parts of the course (hills, longer runs). In SF, Sino and a few others did the qualifier almost twice as quickly as myself. Basically, fast messengers kick the absolute crap out of moderately paced sometimes messengers like myself. You get two attempts to qualify but unless you've been doing this for awhile or have some amazing gift, you'll be watching on the second day which is a 3-hour, 5 manifest if you can manage it brutalizer. I would imagine worlds are the same but many times more difficult due to increased competition.

If you aren't a really efficient messenger and a very fast cyclist overall, you won't qualify. Think of your finishes in local alley cats (NYC is more competitive) and if you aren't consistently in the top 10, then you aren't fast. If you haven't ever worked as a messenger (pretty much the position I'm in) then you stand little chance. The messengers that come to these events are in it for the glory, not to eff around. They are good at what they do and qualify with ease. The real tester for everyone is the finals...3 hours sucks for anyone, efficient messenger or not.

If you don't screw up the manifest, don't get a flat and push hard you should be able to qualify. Doing well in the main race is another story though. It's much harder to keep your head straight and not skip stuff after 2 hours when your entire body is screaming at you and your lungs feel like they're going to explode.

this sounds kinda promising, since if i do the NACCCs next year i'd just like to qualify.
