Hey all:
Does anyone out there own a 1986 Team Fuji? My '86 Team Fuji has a six - speed freewheel. I'd like to know any owner out there of a '86 Team Fuji has ever converted it over to an Shimno STI index shifter system?
There are a few things to consider when updating an 80's bike from 6 or 7 speed to modern STI 8, 9 or 10speed spec. There have been a lot of threads that cover most of these problems in the Classic & Vintage section of these forums. If you have any specific questions about your bike, post the question there and you should get the best responses.

You likely have a 126mm rear droput, which you can expand on a steel frame, but not on an aluminum one. 8-10 speed hubs are 130mm wide, so that may stop you there. A seven speed freewheel should fit on the hub you have now. If you are stuck with max 7 cogs, you can still use older RSX or Sora shifters. The spacing is so wide that my shifters even worked with an old Suntour Vx group I was running on the bike.
