So who was the last Head-of-state to be executed? (asassinations don't count)

You mean following a formal and just trial, or "executed" by the overthrowers?

I'm thinking the Romanian, uh, but can't remember how to spell his name.

coups or loss-of-life in self defense count. . ."formal and just trial" is not on the table though.

Romania is warm but according to my sources there is another candidate.

Milosevic wasn't executed. Or was he? I've been in a cave these past three years, I'm sorry to say.

I think Ernesto may be over in the Foo Party room. Hope so! Gives us time to think, right SaTom (rhymes with Sadaam)?

Milosevic died before they could kill him.

Ah, yeah, rings a bell. Heart attack, right?

Nicolae Ceausescu was executed on December 25th 1989 but there has been at least one other head-of-state "executed" since then. . .

Actually either works, it really doesn't happen that often.

Heh, no New Year's Eve countdown for him, eh?

Tom, ready to go to Iraq and start the "Sadaam sightings"? I'll bet with you roaming the countryside, Sadaam would log more than Elvis!

Now that Saddam is officially the latest . . .I think the previous winner was Mohammad Najibullah of Afghanistan who incidentally met a particularly grisly end at the hands of the Taliban that unseated him:

but maybe I'm missing someone in Africa?

Congolese (?) guy who plane mysteriously crashed.

The President of Rwanda was shot down in his airplane in 1996 but I don't think it should count as an execution. But I was thinking maybe someone in Somalia or Sudan? Liberia? Sierra Leon?

VegaVixen

Yeah, that's what I was thinkin' of. And, I do think it was Congolese related. Did you follow all the Hutu/Tutsi conflict, from the get-go?

Saddam Hussein 12-29-2006?

Yes, I was living in Canada at the time, a place where you actually get news about other parts of the world.
You can get news about anywhere if you're willing to dig for it. Even in pre-Internet days. But you know that.

I remember having difficulty keeping up with my part of the USA when I was in Belgium in '86-'87. But I could dig for it, and I did. Southeast news events weren't really in the papers there, but D.C. was. Wonder why?

I got all my info on Rwanda from print, NPR, news broadcasts. Don't much care to read news online. Would rather Foo around instead. ;)
