Classic & Vintage - Before I mess up this chainring

Is there any particular reason I shouldn't clean up and hang this skiptooth I recently acquired?

Is that a section of chain that's been corroded into the chainring? :eek: Only thing I'd worry about is the cleaned result not looking as appealing as the "authentic' if not 'rustic' starting point.

Yeah, that's a bit of chain rusted into it...
Is it still called "patina" if it's that thick? :D
It may just get a clearcoat then.
I have the exact same chainring. My chainring is tripple chromed. It looks mint. I don't know why I bought it, I have no use for it.
