Can you buy those clear stickers like the chainstay stickers to protect against cable rub? I know I know .. it's a bike and it's gonna get messed up, but I just spend 2G's and I'd like the bike to look nice for as long as possible.

I know you buy some that look like carbon, not sure about clear. If you find them let me know I would be intersted in them to.

ya the clear chain stay stickers would be perfect ... although in bigger patches would be nice. I don't need too much just two spots I guess.

Why would you buy a bike for 2 G's where cables rub on to your frame?

when the rear flexes, I get slight cable rub ... but that's probably because I installed the full metal jackets. I guess I could redo the cabling, but if it's phsically possible to not have it rub with those straight pipes.

All I'm saying is that couldn't they have came up with a better way to run the cables fore 2Gs you spent? That is what upsets me, if you pay that kind of money for a bike, you have to get the quality product.

oh ... I routed and installed the disc and cables myself =) I tried a few thing to get it not to rub, but you can never really be sure till you take it out for a ride.

By cable do you mean cable housing? Well, what I did with mine is I used the zip- tights to hold the housing tight against the frame. In my case that fixed the problem.

ya, I'm trying to find an alternative to zip ties ... those are my last resort.

Just use some tube patches. They're self adhesive, and clear. Nobody will ever know they're there. If you want a little more protection, then just wrap some electrical tape around the cable itself where it contacts the frame. That way nothing is sticking to the frame, only the housing. And since your housing is most likely black, you won't even be able to tell the tape is there.

Patches are a good idea. Some stronger-sticking scotch tape also works for a few rides and is cheap. The tape has worked fine for me. There are protectors made by Lizard Skins that come in a carbon color.

I bought some things made by Jagwire that are made of a soft rubber, and they slide over the cable housing. They're about 1.5 inches long, and I bought several to place on my shift cables where they were rubbing my $1800 (frame only) bike.

I'll find the link and post a pic!

Arrggghhhh, the link takes you to the home page.

Along the pull down menu across the top go to "Products".
Then along the left, click on the Yellow "Premium" products.
Click on "Accessories"
Then across the top again click on "Tube Tops".

One solution that has worked for my buddies and I is using about 5-10 small o-rings. We slide them onto the cable or brake hoes and stack them real close. You can move them to the problem spots and if you use the right size o-ring, they will stay put.

Have fun

Have funI'm sure he found the solution a long time ago. This thread is 8 months old. At least it's good to know that someone is using search option :D

Yeah, too bad this thread is so old. The guy could have save some bucks and bought clear hockey tape for $3 a roll.

He could have taped up his whole bike!

I'm a cheap ass, and what I do is just wrap the part where the cables contact the frame in electrical tape. The cable housings are black anyway, so wrapping the electrical tape around the housing is impossible to see anyway, and it provides a nice soft surface and protects the frame. You can even do the same thing on your chainstays.

Probably a bogey flying in under the radar (i.e. some fellow who did a search for "cables" in Google and came upon an old bikeforums thread and then joined the forum to get a related question answered).

BUT we're the ones who keep feeding it by replying. :o

Quick, make a diversion while a run away!

I put some electricians tabe around the rub on the tube and under the cable and zap strap over- this works better to protect tha paint- and you can get electro tape and zaps in lots of colors- I've gone through 4 color combo's ( my own dumb obsession )

I know this is an old thread and no one really cares but....

They do make clear, very thick and strong, mylar tape for frames. It works great and is fairly cheap. I got mine at a bike shop, the roll was 1" x 10 feet (or so), I don't remember how much, maybe $6.00.

thats a really good idea that Jagwire came up with. better than sticking weird patches all over the frame!

Don't you have the rubber things that go around the cable, and prevent the cable from rubbing??
