Bicycle Mechanics - Anybody here ever remove a glued/riveted front d hanger?

I know that carbon bikes have non-clamp-on front derailleur hanger for obvious reasons. I want to lower my front d to better fit cyclocross compact and routing the slot is out- not enough metal left to rout!

It looks like my front d hanger has a couple of small rivets and some kind of epoxy securing it to the seat tube. Any way to remove it safely and re-glue and re-rivet back onto the carbon seat tube?

Isn't slotting the hanger out all the way an option? Sheldon recommends this for brake calipers; the bolt will hold it together anyway. Or are you saying that you need more than that?

Derailleur hangers are much thinner and are soft metal. You need to leave probably about 1/8th inch of meat below the slot.

Try to contact the frame's manufacturer for ideas. They should be able to tell you what, if anything, you can do.

I read a post on one of the forums from someone who had removed a derailleur hanger and had one custom made with a lower slot by a machine shop. I think that should work well but I'd still be concerned with exactly how the hanger is riveted to the seat tube. Like what's on the inside of the tube. Is there a piece of metal on the backside of the CF? I would expect there to be something there for the rivet to seat against besides just the CF. If so, will it stay there after the rivets are drilled out? Dunno. I'd be afraid to drill new holes without knowing what's back there.
The hangers that are held on with machine screws obviously have some metal on the backside. Hillrider's right.
