Foo - Can you take a taxi through a drive-through?

Anyone done this? What happens if you're in a taxi and want to grab a bite to eat?

The meter just keeps ticking.

Yeah, but it occurs to me that I've never seen this happen. I assume it's not against any regulations, though the driver might object to you eating in the car.

When I was at USC, there was a free campus taxi service called Campus Cruisers that would pick up students and drive them within a 2 mile radius of campus between 11:00 pm and 4:00 am. Usually people used it to get home safely from the library or parties, but once I was crammed into a SCrusier with three other strangers, and one of us had the bright idea of getting Mexican food at Chano's (a hole-in-the-wall but really delicious Mexican stand on Fig and 30th). Even our driver (another student doing his work-study job) was into it, so no harm done. I suppose that doesn't really count as a taxi through a drive-thru, but it was as close as I got.

Now I want Mexican food!

Having driven taxi at one point in my illustrious life, I'd say, if you offered to get the driver something too all would be good. You'd just have to pay the meter.

I don't know about taxis, but I've been through a drive through in a limo.

Going through a drive-through in a taxi sounds about like ordering a delivery pizza at a movie theater.

Reminds me of the beer comercial wher the two guys walk in to a pizza shop and order a pizza... delivered. They get a ride home with the driver, pay him for the pizza then gift him the pizza.

I've gone through a drive through in an ambulance. No we didn't have a patient on board.

Not a problem at all here in Japan. Taxis will stop and wait for all kinds of things here. The most usual would be for coffee stops at vending machines.:) We have one or two of them.

Actually, that would be true genius and what do you bet that it comes from the commercial director or writers life? It's too funny not to have happened!

No, it just happened to be adjacent to the car park being used as the service area.

I agree, pizza delivery people never have the correct change.

ive done it tons of times... taxi drivers dont really care, as long as they get the fare. and more than likely, if the people who are driving are drunk, the taxi guy is going to get some free food. We've stopped in at pizza by the slice joints lots of times and bought the cabby some pie.

I once shared a taxi with a pizza. The driver was going my way to deliver it and after the pizza recipient paid his fare, the driver started the meter over. I asked him about that sort of delivery and he says he does it a lot. Long Beach, California.
