BMX - my little rant

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
alright.
I dont see why people that dont bmx buy bmx bikes. Lets be serious, if you pretty much only use your bike to get from point A to point B then buying a bmx bike is a terrible idea. Sure you get some
excersise (sp?) but is it worth it. The only advantage to having a bmx bike is that its smaller and can allow you to do tricks. For everyday purposes a mountain bike is much more useful. You can put it on a lower gear if you want excersise but if your just cruising around you can make it as easy or as hard as you want to.

See teens riding bmx bikes all over the place. I wonder the same question. Sitting on them, knees going higher than their chests. I say to myself, "what the bleep is wrong with those idiots?"

Same around here, and all of them are 'wal-mart' bikes
BMX bikes are cheaper than MTBs.

Not all the time. I see a lot of people rocking Fits and some good bmx bikes, but they don't ride bmx. I think they just want to be "cool".
i mean for a teenager a 100$ x-mart mtn bike is much better then a 100$ bmx for just getting around

Same, but I never rode it. It was too easy so I didn't like it... besides from the fact my parents bought me a purple one.

They usually try to do tricks, like manualing off a curb or something, but most of them give up and just ditch the bike and get a car when they're 16.

And don't have items that require alot of maintenance such as deraileurs and shocks.
I'm 5' 11 1/2" and 225 lbs. and have 2 BMX bikes. I got tired of the high maintenance of the MTB I had.
My bikes fit me just fine. The key is tall bars, tall seatpost, and adequate TT length.
What are you even talking about? There is a lot of maintenace with a BMX bike too if you really take care of it.

Take the time to create sentences that make sense, and people will take the time to read what you write.

Not like a mountain bike though. And BMX bikes are dirt cheap compared to MTBs, when it comes to maintenance. If I didn't have a mechanic friend rebuild the Headshok on my Cannondale, it would have cost about $300 for a new cartridge/labor.
You can strip, degrease, and reassemble a BMX in no time at home, with simple tools.

Ouch. That's a lot of money for all that. Lucky for me, if I ever need maintenance for my bike, I can just take it to my shop for free... the only problem is that they aren't the brightest. They can never put a Shadow chain on the right way. I just thought, I should probably grease everything up and all. I haven't touched my bike in such a long time.
I've got a good wrokstand and a set of shop tools for just about everything I might need to do on my bikes. Except for the funky Cannondale tools. All I need to do know is wait until spring so I can build my new workshop.

Ya, a BMX is really simple to work on in comparison to a big rig downhill bike.
I can rebuild my BMX in a matter of minutes, the big rig? that can be an all day project.

My Chumb Zulu, can easily take a day to get everything apart, relubed, and re-tuned. Suspension pivots are a real pain to get apart and quite often are really tight. You also need special tools to work on it, such as BB and crank pullers. On a bike like it, I only use propper tools, no hammer and punch for that.
As you can see, it isnt exactly simple :p.

wtp, that bike is crazy, I hate working on MTB's. I might apply at the bike shop this week though, then I'd probably have to get better at it... damn it
Sweet bike! How much $ did it set you back?
About 1/2 my tandem, I bet. ;)

With my sponsorship and stuff it still came over $2500, brand new with all the gear it comes close to around $7000.
The cranks and stuff on there arent the ones that are on it now, I have a MRP Bones Combo now.

Personally I like that kids who don't ride BMX ride BMX bikes. When they get out of it at 16, they sell 'em for cheap, and hardly used. Makes it easy for dorks like me to get into it for very little money.

BMX bikes are smaller and roll on 20's (sometimes chrome!)
Also you can transport more of your 'homedawgs' and 'essays' around with the pegs so that someones got your back when your tryna get some weed and your low on cash.

MadMan. You should get a job in a shop. Then you can buy parts below wholesale and get paid to stand around, read magazines, drink coffee and pick up some ultra valuable skills.

I can appreciate sarcasm, if done with class and style. That was neither.
You're new. Don't tell Beerman what to do. Not a good idea. Also, no one appreciates you saying something about it. You should be at fault for not keeping you kid contained... the internet is a very dangerous place for the younglings to go running about.

This place should be safe. SHOULD.
What would the sponsors of this site say. I feel if they knew crap was allowed like that, they'd pull their ads.
That kind of stuff is bad for this site. If you like this site so much, you'd see.
Maybe one day you'll understand.
Maybe one day you'll go away. This place is safe. I never heard of anyone getting hurt from this site.

Honestly, I didn't see the picture, but I don't think he would be that stupid to post something so horrible here. I also think that if it was such a horrible picture, he shouldn't have let his kid go near the computer to see it.

It's not that the photo was really that terrible. It's the context. It had no place on the forums. And contrary to what you or anyone else might think, Beerman has to abide by the same rules as everyone else.

I didn't say he shouldn't abide by the rules, I said I didn't think he would post something so bad to make everyone talk about it and everything and have a big debate/discussion.
