Saw it last night, it was very good. It basically tells the tale of a little girl's adventure in the Franco-era Spain. The narrative switches back and forth between the "real world" and the little girl's saga.
Some people I saw it with didn't like it because it was a little too violent, but everyone agreed it had amazing visuals. The director did an excellent job in mixing the spectacular fairy tale and violent political conflict. It's like Alice in Wonderland spliced with clips from Reservoir Dogs.
I give it 9 dismembered ears out of 10.
