Foo - Last Outdoor Ride of 2006, and the winter

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, I went out today and got in 14 miles. It was 40 degrees, cloudy and a little breezy. I was dressed well for the weather, and had a decent ride. But the last 4 or 5 miles, I was getting chilly and the wind was giving me a runny nose. I like to enjoy my bike rides. I've decided that this was my last outdoor ride until spring of 2007.:( It's been a good year though. 3,200 miles.:D Hopefully, before spring I will have a new job, and be able to commute to work from the spring to the fall. I should know in the next month about the job.:) I wish I lived somewhere more temperate.
P.S. I hope you all have a safe and happy new year's!:D

It's 52 here and we're fixin to head out for a 30 miler. But I'll prolly get a ride in tomorrow too, so this isn't my last for 2006. Looks like the weather will be a little more winter-like Monday, for the first ride of 2007 and my commute next week. The new snow bike with the studded tires hasn't gotten much of a work out yet, I think they're hoggin all the snow out west!
Congrats on a great ride cycle17. I have been riding for the last three days like each was my last day of the year. If the rain holds out I will go again today.
Unfortunately, a runny nse is a part of riding in the cold. I try to go everyday that is 45 degrees or warmer if time permits.
Have a great New Year.

Mrs Stormcrowe and I got our last ride of '06 in today. Started out to be a little five miler that turned into 20! Here are a few pics from the ride, which went through the Indiana Veterans home on the road segment and all of Lafayette's Greenway system. I was behind the camera, so no shots of me!

The runny nose is a good reason to use the best motorist deterrent and dog repellent on the planet......the Schnozzle Rocket! :D
It's starting to look like i had my last one Thursday. This is the longest it's rained here in Kansas in over a year. This sucks!

No ride for me today, hopefully tomorrow. We got 8 inches of snow and I don't have my studded tires on yet.
I tried to put them on but could not get the rear tire on. It's the first time I have not been able to get a tire on. :(

My last for the year was yesterday, 14 miles and 27 degrees. I finished with 2400 which is not as good as a lot of you but I'm happy with it.
We got about 2" of snow today. Everyone knew it was coming but it seemed to take people by surprise. The worst driving conditions I've seen in a while, mostly because of "the other guy". I did see one valiant soul on a mtb pedalling along. He did look a little squirrely. I had to laugh about the hill he was approaching...no way he would make it up.
I was hoping for a first ride on the first, but it looks like the weather won't cooperate so I'm shooting for the second.

2400???? I never have that many people chasing me, unless you count the ones not wielding pitchforks, clubs and guns.

Great! I don't ride in snow. Not cuz I can't, cuz I don't trust the cars. :(

Well i know one thing 302 bike rides is too dam much, i will cut rides and ride more miles per ride. Hoping to get 4,000 miles this year or at least close to that mark.

my last ride of the year was some time in mid november. it was a beautiful ride. haven't been out since then. not that i have a bike to ride, ******* LBS.
My last ride was yesterday, a so Cal Bike Forums ride up to Mt. Baldy. I have to say that I challenged myself like never before and made it all the way up to the ski lifts (extra climb after the village that is 4.5 miles and 2100ft + of elevation gain)...barely. I stopped, I almost cried, I pouted, I told someone to **** off  but I made it. It was a hell of a final ride for 2006!
Here's the graph from the friend that dragged my ass up to the top! :D

My last ride for 2006 was of course on 31 Dec 2006 and my Ohara loop. Met a Spanish rider and a Swedish rider out there. A bit of snow but no ice on the road. During the ride we had a max. 4 deg cel, and low of 2 deg cel...lovely. Nice and sunny winter's day. My total kms for the year ended up 2964.7 km on the Orbea, and 4882.58 km on the Giant. Total 7847.28 km or 4876 miles. Bring on winter as I am on fire.:D Finished the ride with a sprint against my training partner and yahooooooo, won:p . Trouble is he sh1ts on me in the mountain and on the track.:o
Happy 2007 foosters!!! I luv yous all.:)

A friend and I made it out for the final ride of 2006 yesterday at Fish Creek Provincial Park. It was a fabulous ride as we were able to cross the frozen stream at any point and was able to ride on it. Most of the parks bridges were washed out from the flooding in the summer of 2005. Ever since, crossing the creek has been limited to a couple bridges.
Zipping throught the forest.

The summers easy down hills are now garly icy death traps. (A ton of fun BTW) :)

It was really warm last week so everything melted but got fairly cold at night the last 4 days. The ice was NHL quality in parts.

The Nokian Extreme 294's work well as usual. As difficult as it was to walk on the ice, riding on it was like dry pavement.

Some areas of the creek had hard pack snow on top of the ice.

Shadows are getting long, time to go home.
