I 've decided to change over from ATAC's to Frogs to have a bit less wear and tear on the knees. Anyone have any experience good or bad with the frogs.

I've had them since ~'99. The only difficulties i find with them are in lots of sticky sand. Keep them generously greased (the "mushroom" on the pedal and, in especially sticky sand, grease the (clean) cleats, too.

I've had good results in mud (except the goopiest crap in the DFW, TX area which will gum up any pedal... or even flat shoes!), snow and any other kind of stuff. With sand, if you let the lube on the pedal dry up, the engagement is hard.

I still wouldn't trade them for anything!

So you're going from odd to weird...:D (just kidding) Most people usually have SPD or Egg Beaters.:)

It's the float I'm looking for. I've had SPD's with no float and I really do like the ATAC's. They never fail however as you get a little older the knees take a beating. Just trying to get the most out of my ride with as little pain. Sand won't be a problem. Just a thought on the sand...did you ever try a dry lube. Curious if it would help.

while you are at it you may want to start doing knee excersises and stretches. that, more than the extra float of my atacs vs spd or flats, has made the difference between limping the next day or riding the next day painfree

Frogs feel too loose off road. Like you are riding on ice skates. I switched to Eggbeaters and think there is still plenty of float for my knees. Now I have more control of the bike and feel more connected. The Frogs are now on my commuter. YMMV...

I have atac's, and don't have knee problems. I agree that stretching helps a lot to reduce tightness. I haven't tried Frogs, but know people that swear by them.
