Northern California - Learning bike maintenance in San Mateo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've picked up basic skills working from the Park website. I find more involved repairs or upgrades are time consuming because of the adjustments that have to be made after a major component or assembly is changed. Some instruction would speed up the work and deliver a better result.
I've read mentions of Bike Church and Bike Kitchen in SF.
Has anyone had experience with those groups?
Is there a counterpart in San Mateo county?
Thanks

The REI store in San Carlos has a full day maintenance course for $85. I did it and it really made a big difference in my ability to work on my bike. Highly recommended.

I tried to sign up for the REI class in Concord 2X but they fill up fast. I even camped out before the class started to see if anyone drops out, no luck. I heard great things about the class.
