At 53, I've rediscovered my bike! I rode tons in the 80's. Now my wife has inspired me to ride again. I'm at 160 pounds from 190. My 1987 Cannondale Black Lightning (with downtude shifters no less) still rocks.
I'm commuting 16 miles a day in the dark thanks to a gift Night Sun. I've discovered the clothes have improved in the last 20 years to the point that I'm really comfortable at 33 degrees!

Goal: 150 pounds (me, not the bike) and 2000 miles. When I reach my goal I'm going to buy a new bike.

We are happy you found us, cccorlew! Congrats on the weight loss! Oh, and that new bike doesn't have to be a new new bike...could be a new VINTAGE bike.

Welcome to BF!

Return the kindness to your wife by getting her a better bike than yours. Good luck.

My inspiring wife HAS a new bike that's better than mine; A Trek that, at least compared to my bike weighs about nothing. I'm trying to convince her that's the reason she kicks my buns on the hills, but she ain'y buying it....
On the bright side, view from behind is pretty fine.
