Went an hour on my new Blackburn Ultra Fluid trainer this morning. Some observations and questions.

Set up is easy. Being able to adjust it so the wheel so it's just off the floor is great - no need for a front wheel riser block. It's very quiet. Successfully fought off boredom with a mix of Bob Seger, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and The Allman Brothers. Per the Garmin Edge 305, average speed was 17.2, cadence ave was 73, and ave HR was 120. I was surprised that calories was 2482. Does that seem realistic?

While I know trainers are hard on tires, I was surprised to find a black ring where the tire contacts the trainer, and don't think I overtightened the roller mechanism on to the tire.

Too bad it was raining here (Chicago) this morning - the balmy 45d temp here would have been great for a ride outside.

Safe and happy new year everyone. Go Bears.

There's a ring on my KK trainer too. Try rubbing the tire and roller down with windex every few rides. It cleans off the rubber dust, hand oil and whatever else the tire collects and helps keeps the friction up to prevent slipping and squeaking.

Watch out for a blotch of rubber dust behind the resistance unit. That means that something is slipping bad and you are wearing the tires unnecessarily fast. It doesn't sit well with significant others either.

Happy 2007!

No, not even close. At that HR and "speed" Calories burnt would be less than a 1000.

Did it ask for weight in kilograms and you put in pounds or something like that?
