Bicycle Mechanics - 1993 Dura Ace Front Brake

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I need some help fixing my front brake caliper. I was heading out for a ride and while I was mounting my HR monitor I heard a pop from the front end. Did not think much about it until I began my ride and discovered I had no front brake. The tension arm is in the down position so I don't know what happened. The cable seems taught. There is the adjusting bolt but I can't figure out how it works because to me it seems that it has nothing to grab onto because I can just lift the bolt right out of the hole that it sits in. I'm wondering if I'm missing something that I've never really noticed in the past. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanking you in advance.

Your probably missing a nut on that Dura ace brake of yours, and its very hard to get spare part here in Toronto your best bet is to buy a replacement brake for your bike, and by the way Welcome to Bikeforum.com
I GUESS that the cable is loose. Like Racso says, the bolt probably came off.
Your thought that the cable is tight is a mirage. Grab it with a pliers and give it a tug. I bet it proves to be loose.
Thanks guys, I will search high and low in the morning for that bolt because my gut is telling me it's probably on the garage floor since that is were I heard the pop. Once again thanks for your feedback.
Well, be sure that the bolt is indeed missing.
I wouldn't spend too much time looking. Just get another bolt. If your garage is like mine, you may find all kinds of thing in your search - everything but that bolt.

you may want to look at the brake lever, I've seen cables brake in the lever as well as the lever breaking. Does the cable move when you pull the brake lever? Does the brake move when you pull the lever? if so try and pull the cable through the brake and retighten it. The cable may have just slipped through bolt and just needs to be tightened.
The cable housing may have also failed, so check that as well.
