Southern California - Cell Phone Numbers for Rides (and Safety)

Brandy came up with a great idea last night. She suggested that we have a master cell phone list to use whenever we go out on rides. This way, riders can carry the list and call one another in lieu of trying to program 30+ numbers into their cell phones! This list would be used for ride purposes only and it will not be made public as I've received enough feedback to keep it private. Thus, I will create an Excel spreadsheet (or Word, one or the other) that can be emailed to the organizers of individual rides (e.g., I will email a copy to Brandy for next week's ride). The numbers will NOT be posted in a Sticky thread for public access.

If you still do not wish to provide your cell number, no problem - but I would encourage every rider to give his/her cell number at the beginning of the ride to someone for safety (Mother Mary is coming out! :o )

EDIT: IF YOU WOULD LIKE, PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE AN EMERGENCY CONTACT.

Okay, so as this evolves, a couple of smart indivduals (who both must have been in the Scouts as kids) have suggested that we also ask for emergency contact info. Personally, as a rider, I always wear my ROAD ID and suggest it to everyone (link below where you can purchase it for a mere $20 incl. S&H). If I forget it at home, I carry my medical card and I always carry ID. But, it wouldn't hurt to have emergency info too. So, if you haven't already and want to, please pm that info to me. And if you haven't already PM'd your number, please just add an emergency contact.

Personally, as a rider, I always wear my ROAD ID

Yeah, unfortunately, on Baldy or any of those roads out there, it's hit or miss. We might all need to learn "smoke signals" or something on those rides...:o

They sure will! We (back in the car club days) used Motorola Talkabout's (in the canyons), and they work like a charm

I've got a couple sets of 2 way radios like the ones above and they work well. They will work where cell phones won't.

I got 3..... 2 work up to 10 miles and the other will go up to 5 I believe...

If my number gets out, do you know how many jalapeno enema threats I'll receive?:eek:

Oh, yes. Let me clarify. The folks I list in my previous post are people I've ridden with who had already given me their cell numbers, so I have those numbers in my cell phone. A whole ton of you wonderful BFers have pm'd me your cell numbers too! I'm going to compile the list this week. :)

Hey M.E.....I just pm'd you my number. I had your's so I called you earlier from the observatory but reception was crappy so I'm not sure if my number registered....even if it did you wouldn't have recognized it anyway. The observatory was closed but someone had opened up a hole through the fencing and a bunch of people were milling around the building. I spent a few minutes taking in the views from there as well.
But we did pass each other on the river trail on my way back. You were hunkered down fighting the headwind and I noticed the blue bar tape and when I realized it was you, you were already like 50 yards down......so I quickly turned around and chased you for about a minute but couldn't catch you so I turned back to go home. :)

You went up to the observatory? Good for you! I was lazy and just did intervals in head wind (but I wasn't working that hard). I thought that was you, but I knew you wouldn't hear me if I yelled out, so I just kept going. Well, you'll get sick of me if you ride with me all the time, so we'll be back out there on a night ride for sure! Thanks for your number, I will add it to the list. :)
