Just realize that if it's just the two of us, the only time you'll actually see me is at the start. :p

If I don't ride stagecoach due to lack of riding funds, I'm game to tackle GMR ride if its a bit warmer.

I've never done GMR and would like to attempt it with a smaller group. I may be up for this ride. Plus I'm not cool :) :)

How about Sunday, the 14th, roll at 7:30? I haven't done this route, so I don't know how long it would take the average folk to finish.

Sunday is better for me as well, it's a long ride, I'd suggest an earlier start, maybe try to roll by 6:45?

wow, if I do all of the BF rides then I will not have to do any real training and I'll be able to do any ride I want... :D

call me tentative for now because I have a concert the night before (Sly and the Family Stone)... Basically, if I wake up (I will set the alarm, but as I figure that I'll be getting home around 1AM...) then I will head out for this route.

I'm not exactly "Out like Gout" since I may (MAY) come meet you guys at the bottom of GMR and head up to Baldy Village and back. I will need a recovery ride after Stagecoach, and I could just go up at my own pace and back down. I might be able to recruit a few others who want a kinder-gentler-ride to join me. :D

Edit: does this mean I'm in a whole new category? Like "Sorta in Like Snakeskin" or "Slipping in like Lamb Skin"?

Hey, Heddy, if you want to come do the GMR to Baldy part with me (NOT to dissuade you from the 100), you are more than welcome. Ride with me and you'll see that I'm neither a sandbagger nor a hammerer! I was climbing most parts of GRR yesterday between 6-7 mph! On 1/14, my legs will be tired anyway...so, you or anyone else can come "snail it" with me. :D

Well, if OCroadie and Extort are along, they'll hit GMR sooner rather than later, but I'm going to have to determine (I'll ask Phil since he is the creator of this ride - he'll probably know best). 8:30ish? or 9AM at he latest. But Phil may read this and start laughing - so prepare for as early at 7:45 or 8AM.

EDIT: Oh, and I do NOT expect to stay up with them. I just think it will motivate me to get my butt out there to sudo-join the group. I'd love it if you want to join. We can then stop at the lodge for a cocoa and/or go grab lunch after. :D

That sounds great to me! I'd love to do it with someone who has some experience with the ride, and who isn't looking at hammering up the mountain.

Awesome! All I need is an ETA from Voltman or Extort and we'll set a time.

Votaire, would you please make a new category for those of us who will join at the bottom of GMR??? It looks like Heddywouldgo, Brandy and Merider1 at this point. We'll be like fans or groupies, smiling and waving as you guys pass us and fly up the moutain. I may even put my hand to my forehead and act a little faint from the sight of all of you hunks. :p :D

When we did the Baldy Challenge last time I believe that we got to the bottom of GMR around 10 after leaving at ~7:20, but we were getting rained on so that slowed us down.

GMR - 9 miles, about 40 minutes at a fast pace, about an hour 10 for a normal pace.
GRR - 12 miles, about 50 minutes at a fast pace, about an hour 30 for a normal pace.
Village Idiot route - 4.5 miles, about 45 minutes at any kind of pace, N/A (there is no such thing as a normal pace here)

Village Idiot?!? That's the best part of the ride. Really it is since you get the crisp mountain air and good scenery. On the downside there will be ice and probably some snow of the ground.

Put me down as a maybe for Jan 14.

You nailed the time splits, spot on, although that doesn't help answer Me's question.

Well, you'll just have to show up and ride next year on a BF ride. We're all friendly (I, for one, hug on first meeting, but don't let that deter you :p ).

If I don't get up to Santa Cruz for a 'cross race, count me in. I'd be riding over from Altadena so, like M.E., I would need a meet up time for the bottom of GMR.

That is very cool, because those were just guestimates.

ME, my statements mean that if we start at 6:45AM and do not have any weather/traffic/mechanical/other issues... then we will be at the base of GMR around 9 - 9:30AM... This is also assuming that everyone keeps the same pace as the last Baldy Challenge...

Of course, if you want a definite time to meet all of the riders, show up before 6:45 at Imperial and La Palma...

Thank you, you big, strong man, you. ;) And unless you are bringing the tow rope and plan to pull me from Imperial and La Palma to the base of GMR (and back after descending), I'll just have to whistle at you as you fly by me at the BASE of GMR at 9:30am...:p :D

I may be in for a little more climin action... I hope climin GMR is as much fun as descending. If not, the pain of climbing may conjure some more hard questions like, "why do I enjoy torturing myself?" and "Why aren't I riding on a cool motorcycle like the guy who just passed me?" etc....
