Thanks guys. His mom ran off with another man and the dad was so heartbroken he ran off to find her. He left Kendrick in a big house with a lot of money and food by himself. He was 12 at the time and used to hang out at the local 7-ll playing vids and not in school. I used to pass by it all the time and see him in there so one day I confronted him and asked him why he wasn't in school. He had seen me around and and used to wave through the window (I had to pass 7-11 to go to work).

That day he walked me to work and told me his story. I ended up having him for two years.

I think of him every New Year because I would tell him it's a great new start for him.

gesh, isnt the school suppose to report such a long absence and sent someone to check at the adress they have?
this is weird, you'd think social services would of been involved.
plus did you have to get temporary guardianship and go to court and all? cause I mean he's a minor, they usually put them in foster homes unless someone steps up for guardianship

That lovely song was written by Leon Russell, and if it's heart and soul you want, you need to hear Leon's version. He wrote it for his wife Mary Russell, their work together will send a chill down your spine.

He was skipping out of school and wrote fake notes. I had to pretend to be his older sister (who had moved out and didn't get along with the family) and go talk to the counselors on getting him back in class and caught up in homework. He had missed about two weeks. He didn't want the school to know about this, for his dad was desperate and ran off. He knew what would happen if they knew. Dad called everyday for Kendrick and sent money to him. Dad paid the bills to the house so it was still connected to phone and PG and E. Dad stayed away for over a month but by then Kendrick was so mad that he stayed with me. Although he lived in my apt, dad kept in touch and offered money for his food. Eventually Kendrick went back, but later went to college.
