Foo - new years rituals

got any new years rituals/superstitions?

we do these:

eat black eyed peas on new years day for good luck

put money outside the house new years eve and then bring it in the next morning, symbolizing prosperity in the new year.

that's neat rando!
we have none except guilting us out of things we said we were suppose to stop doing on new year's day.
so far, it's not working too good.

I usually put my clothes on and put all the pots and pans away...then clean the house...

Traditional Asian stuff. Like eating lots of food and scaring the bad spirits away and stuff like that.

Pork... ya gotta eat pork on New Years Day.

Letting the ladies watch the parades and then watching football. It brings peace and tranquility.

yeah i used to race this one 10k for new year's day, but I have to skip this year, the achilles is not ready to race :(

We always ate chicken soup, kielbasa, and pierogi, and had many drop-in guests after Mass ended.

In some parts of the south, blackeyed peas, ham, collards. Peas for prosperity, ham (oddly enough) for health. I think the collards are supposed to bring gas. :eek:

My mom used to sweep under my feet with a broom. Said it was to keep marriage away for another year. Guess she missed once! ;)

I'm making a spicy Hoppin' John tonight, using Morningstar (fake) sausage crumbles in lieu of pork sausage. YUM! :D

It's some type of ritual that if you burn 7 candles on New Years Eve it will bring luck. I also know a saying, that the way you spend the New Years Eve is the way the year will be for you. One last one is that the dinner table, should always have a lot of food. I guess it symbolizes that you wont go hungry.

I had black eyed peas, don't really like cabbage but my dad made it. Both of these were made with ham. We also put silver coins in the window last night. I thought my dad was the only person who did that kind of stuff on new years.
