I have a trak 4500 with jett rock shox. I always thought that you were not supposed to do this, but The shox without covers looked fine. Can I take the covers off or what can I do to be able to cut the covers off.

Thanks
Will

Yes, you can take them off. They are supposed to be dust covers but after a while I think they actually hold the crud in. The seals should keep the junk out of your shock anyway. It's easiest just to cut them off.

Just curious, since I took mine off as well. Is there any way to take them off without cutting them?

Only if you pull the shock apart.
