Catalina Island

What ferry can I take and can I take bikes on the ferry are my biggest questions. Also if anyone has been there how long does it take to get there?

Ive researched riding on catalina island but unless you have a mountain bike, its not worth it.... also you need to buy a permit to ride past the inner border of Avalon which costs alot so unless you really plan a whole weekend trip, you will be paying alot to ride just as good of trails as you can ride here for WAY less money!! Boat trip is about $55 and the permit can run quite a bit itself.. a year pass ruins about 65-75 I beleive..

Someone on these forums or a similar one was planning on having someone boat us over bikes and all and drop us off at a remote campground on the far end of the island then we ride back to Avalon and take a ferry back home...

I thought this would be so cool but the guy just stopped posting about this trip...

A friend has done the fundraiser for the Lung Association and loved it. 3 days riding mtbs, camping at night with live bands and good food. Don't know if they still do it
I thought you could ride free as long as you stayed on the fireroads, saw riders there when I was on the tour bus.
