Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Chain Wrap/Sleeve

My buddy lost my chain sleeve the other night. Replacement ideas? Are there other ones like the Chicago Wig?

Tubular webbing (like what you'd use for climbing).

do you need a chain sleeve (if i understand what you're talking about) on a SS/fixed? i don't think there's a way for the chain to hit the chainstay unless the chain breaks or the wheel comes off (yikes)

Can you confirm that 2" tubular actually fits over the kryptonite chains? I can't find a local source and don't want to pay $6 shipping for $2 worth of webbing to find out.

I don't own either a large chain or webbing.

Just buy some cordura and make one yourself.

An old tube is where it's at for cheap and easy. You probably already have one kicking around.

Yeah, this is what i use, it works fine, just wrap each end in electrical tape to hold it.

MTB innertube works perfectly.

Again, anybody have proof that 2" tubular works for this? The stock stuff is wider than that, I'm too lazy to measure but I think it's 2.5 and it's also definitely thinner material.

^ i agree, i had a lock similar to that cut off with bolt cutters in broad daylight... no sense (no offense) in having a fat chain and a skinny lock.

Yeah thats a perfect chain and sleeve setup but the lock is a bit "wimpy"

I wouldn't think that shackle would be any wimpier than the non-hardened chain it's on. Guy lives in lauderdale, though, I wouldn't lock up something really nice with that but a conversion or an IRO or whatever would rust before anybody messed with it locked up like that in most of FL.

I know the lock's a bit wimpy, but its all I have right now, and where I'm locking it up (suburbia) I seriously doubt anyone is going to go through the trouble of taking bolt cutters to the the lock. Anyway, I just got the chain and that lock is just one I had around the house. It will probabally be replaced soon enough. And its not like I'm lockin up a team bike with decals that shout "steal me!".

But you are right, it could use a new lock
