Made plans to do th Southern Tier in March and I am wondering
about the feasability of using a Hennessey Hammock.
Planning mostly on stealth camping.(budget camping).
I'm not too worried about the eastern half just the
western half thats in the desert.
Any other tips would be welcome.
Thanks

On my Southern Tier trip in 2005 I got stopped twice by the Minutemen, a group a vigilantes that are actively opposed to illegal immigration. They pulled up in their pickups and grilled me as to my plans for camping that evening. I had previously arranged to stop at a trailer campground that I could identify, otherwise I think they would have made a stink - private land right issues.

There is very little cover in the desert, you'll see illegals (who are probably harmless), and you'll see Minutemen and the Border Patrol hunting illegals. Not a place to go stealth camping. Sorry. If I were you I'd arrange to stay at the numerous private campground facilities along the route. Get the ACA map.
