Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Clyde Club.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey,
Any other clydes using Bikejournal.com for their stats and ride journals. I find it great with the amount of data you can capture. But, they also offer clubs/associations. So, I just had to startup a clydesdales club.
The mileage goal for 2007 will be 20,000 miles. But, I have been quite enjoying bike journal as it gives me some motivation to try to stay at a decent ranking compared to the other cyclists on the site. Guess it is just a brain game.
If you want to join in just go to your bikejournal.com account, manage clubs and use the drop down list to find the clydesdale club.
Any questions let me know.:D

OK - joined and dropped in a 22.4 miles and 3435' of altitude for Club Clydesdale.
I am outta commision for a few days :( .... just had the wheel trued and it buggered out after my last ride... back to scream at the bike shop.. I really need to learn how to do this myself. As clydes I think this is the one thing we experience the most!?!

I don't want to start a heated debate, but in Bike Journal do most of you use the "indoor miles count" option or should they be excluded from the 20,000 mile goal?

I was just saying the same thing yesterday. I had to bunny hop a curb to avoid a dog and well, I slammed the curb rather hard. I ended up having to unhook the back brake just to allow the wheel to spin. I order a trueing stand today from performance and will be getting the Wheel Book and hitting up my LBS wrenches for some training. I decided I am also going to use an old rim for practice on building my own wheel so I can learn the ins and outs of wheel maintenance.
The Spin Doctor Stand on sale for $39.99.

I figure in door and outside is all time in the saddle so why not include.

Another 32 miles "in the bank".
I am only logging outdoor miles myself. Maybe once I purchase a trainer... :D

That looks like what I need. The park tools ones seem to be around 100 bucks. worth it in the long run I suppose.
I have purchased a decent ebook by Roger Musson. Great for building wheels from what I am told. And, once I had a look at it seems pretty good. Now I just need some rims to play with :D

I've trued MTB wheels, never road. One I trued by thwacking it against a tree. It reall does work.

Have you ever compared to the books by Jobst Brandt The Bicycle Wheel? This is suppose to be the be all end all for wheels books. Of course at $9.00 it probably worth a look. Thanks for the lead. Yea, while the Park stand is good, I figure since I am only going to be working on my wheels, I could swing $67 for the stand and additional tools I needed versus the $100+ I would have spent on the Park stand by itself.
No, I have not followed up on Brandts books. I shall have a looksy though. I believe I found that ebook via a link on a british cycling forum I frequent where they said he was the be all end all also. Perhaps the British verison :D ... but I figured for the cheapness and the fact I could download it (being in Tokyo) it was the best option for me.
thanks. I was hoping to find Bropt's book in the library, but they did not have it. I jsut down load this book today. Thanks.

Avoid any/all interaction with www.Superspokes.com
I ordered a Ultegra - Velocity Fusion wheelset.......it has been over a month since my credit card was charged and still no wheels and no completion/ship date. Will not return phone calls........refuses to provide actual build status or completionship dates via email.
Learn to build your own or be extremely cautious in selecting a wheel builder.

Damn, as soon as I get close to the front, I get side swipped  . Oh well that means I will just have to ride longer and more often. :D Wanted to ride tonight but it started raining and at 64 degrees, I have no interest in getting wet. I'll get in a quick 30 miles in the morning. Should be bright sun tomorrow.
I realllly hope my rear wheel is put together once I return so i can get going..... stuck at 19 miles  .. my LBS in Tokyo has had my bike for 1.5 weeks now... had to order spokes... WTF???
order spokes  An LBS does not have spokes. Might be time to find another with spokes.
That was exactly my thought. Did not find out about the spokes until after I left my bike and they pulled apart the rim. Guess they only stock spokes for skinny Japanese cyclists and a big goofy looking foreigner scared them into ordering some monster gauge spokes.. :D
I finally got my bike going again after a month of downtime. Maybe I can be in the top 5-10 by February?

Son of a gun, you got me by two miles. No kidding, we have been going back and forth for the last week. It's been nasty up here for the last 2 days and quite cool and I did not feel like getting sick. I came to the conclusion that I'm not an "ArcticJill" type and I'm just a fair weather rider when it's in the winter, but rain be damn in the summer. I did however, just order a heavier polartech long sleeve jersey, so watch out I will be warmer now. :D I'm still going to try to get out tonight, but I'm waiting for the roads to dry up a little. Tried to go last night and there was just enough water on the road to be super slippery.

When it's the winter? The winter? Dude, this is fall weather we're having! :) Those folks in Texas are having winter!
Go get yourself a decent baselayer, some riding pants, and full length gloves. Actually, with the weather we've been having I find myself quite comfortable in just regular cycling shorts, a base layer, jersey, and fingerless gloves. If it was 5-10F cooler I'd probably also throw on a wind breaker. The first 20 minutes are cool, but then the body warms up and all is well in the world.
I grew up in South Florida, this is "Winter" too me. :D

Hey, I'm originally from Miami.
Actually, true story. My birthday is in mid-January (it's passed now, so you guys can hold off on the kudos).. I have strong memories of my birthday in 1980 because I switched schools on my birthday. At any rate, on that birthday I remember it was so damn cold the teacher had to wear an overcoat, gloves, and scarf in order to teach.
This year on my birthday, 300 some odd miles north, it was 85F and sunny.
Global warming doesn't exist my ass.

Ok, I moved to the lower 48 to get away from snow. Now the last week, I wouldn't have gotten anyplace with out my studded tires. Keep your warm temp stories to your self!!!:p

Hey I remember surfing on Christmas day at 90F right off the Lake Worth Pier in the mid 70's.
Hey I remember surfing on Christmas day at 90F right off the Lake Worth Pier in the mid 70's.
I live about half way down the state and remember Christmas with the A/C on one year and the heater on the next... Weather patterns need to be looked at geologically not microscopically.
That being said, my son and I used to go surfing January first every year no matter what the weather was. Sure do miss those times...

I just put up 50 miles for Sunday's ride, and total just over 250 miles for the year. You Florida guys are killing me, though...... :o
Yea, but the leader of the pack lives in Colorado, go figure.

I think bigbossman is looking at outdoor rides only. The top 4 outdoor riders are all from Florida, but just wait, spring is on its way and them Florida guys are going to start earning there top spots:D

For the Clyde club? I'm looking at the top 4, and the're all from Florida. The top guy is "drwildbiker" from Lighthouse Point, FL.
I don't see anyone in the top 8 from Colorado.....

Well, not in my mind  BUT. . . If you go into your edit profile, there is a box you can check for "Outdoor rides only" so the stats shown don't include trainer time.

His User Name is Howard and he is also part of several other clubs. Under the Stats -> Club and then scroll down to Clyde. Click the link and he sit atop the leader board with 841 miles, #2: drwildbiker 588, #3: me at 452, #4: Pickled_Loaf otherwise known as 51 in this forum at 413 and ScrubJ at #5 with 404. I think the when looking at the club area it list your riders by their primary club.
I mentioned to 51 that it's interesting that a couple of big boys on hybrid are near the top at the moment. I have no belief that I will remain near the top as the weather changes and gets warmer up North, but I'm going to enjoy it while I can. I'll be happy to make my goal milage and do my best to exceed it. I am on a path to exceed by 400 miles, but I'm close pulling the trigger on a standard road bike which should help me ride a little longer, faster, stronger and smarter.
