Bicycle Mechanics - crown race questions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Are crown races generic, i.e. do I need to get one that matches my headset? And can I even get them through the mail or would my lbs have them? I hope and expect that they could order them.
Thanks a bunch

You need a crown race that matches your headset. They aren't hard to find. You should be able to get one online, or your LBS should be able to order one for you.

If the crown race is bad, I would just get a complete headset. They run about what, $20-25+ for the whole thing.

I agree. Unless you have some extremely expensive headset currently...

In that case, the maker (Cris King I presume) will be delighted to sell you the proper crown race.
And, to the OP: Yes crown races are specific to the make and model of headset. They are not generic.
