Okay, let's cut through the bull. What are your predictions for this year's Grand Tours? I'll start:

Okay, with the new year upon us, let's hear some early predictions on this year's Grand Tours. I know that we don't know all the variables yet, but that's what will make this thread fun to review after each GT. I'll go first:

Giro=Ivan Basso (how will Johan race the Giro?)
Le Tour=Jan Ullrich (yup, the BIG German is coming back!)
Vuelta=Alexander Vinokourov (2-fer -even though my head says Valverde)

If Operation Puerto explodes onto the scene in 2007, I reserve the right to change all 3 of these pix, though. ;)

Top 3 le Tour:

1. Jan Ullrich (I said it before, and now I cannot take it back!)
2. Vino
3. Basso (1 bad day in the mountains)

Difficult to go against Basso. Valverde is a threat. But, I think this is the year of Vinokourov.

Giro - Basso
Tour - Vinokourov
Vuelta - Valverde

Vino: When in doubt - ATTACK!
Vino: When NOT in doubt - ATTACK!
What's not to love? :D

If the bulk of the contenders don't get eliminated from contention before the race begins (as with last year), it's going to be a great race. If Basso is on (no pun intended!) I don't know if there is anyone who can really compete with him. However, I guarantee that Vino will take risks, and ride hard all the way to Paris. Bring it! :)
