Well over the holidays I got my first flat on my cross bike (damn puncture vine). Anyway when I was changing the tube I noticed that Trek had used road tubes (700 x 19-25) instead of cross tubes. I was told you could use a road tube in a emergency, but that you didn't want to use them in a cross bike for hard riding and racing. What are your opinions on this? I did two races with the road tubes in and never noticed a problem, but if they are more likely to flat or pinch I want them out of there. What is the general wisdom on this matter? Thanks.

a road tube is lighter, and if you have 30 mm tires or greater, you are more likely to blow out a tire when you get a flat. the smaller tube becomes stretched out almost like a balloon in larger tire size...I would use the correct size tube.
