I found a bike in the trash in perfect condition. So new I actually had to deal with the cables wearing in. It fits me perfect, its a Spalding Blade. But, the downtube shifter for the front derailer Came apart shortly after the test ride while I was screaming down the street and the peices have been sprinkled all over a busy road. The problem is its all Suntour, perfect condition Suntour. Is there a company that makes a shifter compatible to my old one? I can't seem to find anything online.

Thanks,
jim

Which model Suntour group?

Make a post on the Classic & Vintage forum on the same FD topic, and specify the Suntour group it was from. Someone should pop up in a day or so with a correct replacement.

Are you lucky!

Since it was the front shifter, any friction shifter will work. If it was the other, indexed shifter, that would be harder to find an indexed replacement. A Shimano shifter would still work in friction mode, however.

Thanks for the link. I was looking for some parts to fix my Suntour levers and they seem to have just what I need at a reasonable price.

I had a Spalding Blade for a few years. Bought it new at Sears back in 1988. It was a nice bike for the price ($115) and looked sharp in glossy black with red lettering. I'm not sure if yours is of the same vintage but mine did not have indexed shifting...friction front and rear. Good luck wit your find.

I got a Spalding Blade at a local thrift store but it has friction thumb shifters on the bar. Its a fairly nice mountain bike & I added a Shimano Deore triple crank. You could put almost any shifter on your down tube boss, ask your local bike shop if they have a used shifter.

Check Ebay, I replaced my late 70's Suntour DT shifter with a Campy I for I think about $10.00.
