General Cycling Discussion - Am I addicted now?

Suddenly I have two bikes, a road bike and a mountain bike. I have had a semi- serious wreck, I am going to the bike trail without my son, and I was sitting at the bike shop this morning waiting for it to open.

I am out around $1100 in three weeks, and I hate it when it rains and I can't ride. I am spending too much time on the internet surfing bike related sites and merchants. I even, for the first timein my LIFE, bought a bicycling magazine yesterday so that I could read it at work. Is there a group such as bike-anon, or something of that nature for people like me? - Ted

Don't worry, at my house we subscribe to 3 or 4 biking magazines, not including the various bicycling catalogs that are all too common in our mail. Besides, who said being a bike-addict was a bad thing? Answer me that.

Amen! I feel you Terminator. I had a MTB for 3 years now, but started going off road only buy the end of last summer. I couldn't believe how much fun it was. Too bad the winter was coming up and I had to forget about riding for a while. So guess what I did? I started subscribing to a bike magazine, searching information on bikes and parts, and trying to do pointlessly clean and adjust my bike every day. Better yet I figured that since I couldn't go out on the trails, I might as well look at pictures of them, so I found webshots.com and was sitting for hours staring at pictures other lucky ones took. Now as we getting closer to the summer I already managed to spend about 600$ on spare parts. Now that my MTB is ready, I decided to get a road bike. What can you do? That’s another 15 hundred on the way to the bike store.

Terminator.. we both replied to another thread about the downside of cycling. You and I crashed, yesterday..No bearing upon my addiction. Looking out window with the sling on my arm and want to be out there today. My shoulder remains touchy after several days, will have to put it on a trainer, where shoulder is not used and get in my bike time..
Say, you must get back on the horse right away. I must have over 60.000 miles of cycling in the last decade. Stuff happens.

You know you are addicted when you keep a job because you have a t-1 connection at work, and you can spend eight hours surfing the net, chatting, and posting.
You know you are addicted when you turn down rides in a vehicle to a function because you'd rather ride your bike the hundred miles to it.
You know you are addicted when you find three more frames have followed you home, and the three from last week are still in your living room.
You know you are addicted when you are glad you live alone because no right thinking person would have 12 frames in a one bedroom apartment.
You know you are addicted when you can hear your wife/mother/father/boyfriend/significant other's voice in your head telling you not to when it comes to something bike related, but you do it any way.
You know you are addicted when you go to the LBS and everyone's shaved their legs but you, and you feel shame and guilt.
You know you are addicted when you can sit alone with your bike and gaze at it lovingly from across the room, you study its nuances, curves, and lines, just looking at your bike gives you the feeling of wind rushing through your hair.

I know I'm addicted because my car is filthy and my bike is sparkling clean.
