I just bought an old dried out Brooks B-72 for $10. While the leather is dry and somewhat cracked, I believe it has restoration possibility. After one treatment with Proofide the leather already looks better. Surfice it to say, it will never look great but it might look appropriate on the '50s Hercules I found last month.

Here's the bigger challenge: One rivet is gone and a couple of others have popped out of the frame. I'm thinking of trying my hand at re-riveting the whole saddle. Interestingly the rivets in the B-72 are copper coated steel. The only replacement rivets I've found at Wall Bike are copper. Because there is some wear and stretching (but no tears) around a few holes, I'm thinking of using the big rivets that some of the Professionals come with. Has anyone had any experience re-riveting a Brooks or other appropriate saddle? Advice, guidance, and a reality check are always appreciated. :)

BTW, cudak888 has said he found large copper rivets at ACE, but my local store doesn't carry anything bigger than a 1/4 inch head. The rivets are $15 for 10 from Wall Bike. Know of any other sources?

97531A492 - 450 pieces, $18.08. I don't know if that is the size you are looking for, but they have many others to choose from. Just go to page 3148, lower left-hand side.

This is a bump, because it slipped so low this afternoon. Has anyone re-riveted a Brooks or other leather saddle? Thanks!

Yes, wallbike has the rivets. do not try it without a sound set up, stable bench vise with an anvil end, good punch set and a happy hammer with a smooth face, that and the skill of a ferrier will see happy results.

I bought rivits at my Ace for about $.30 each. I have rivited two leather saddles using an anvil and ballpeen hammer and a large flat headed punch.
If your Ace doesn't have them they may order for you a lot cheaper than Wall bike.

Thanks for the help. When I head out of the mountains and into the big city, I'll check the larger hardware stores. I have the tools and the set up. It is just good to receive some direction before heading off into the unknown!

This is driving me nuts. I know I saw a page that had a re-riveted 72. The guy used the oversized Pro copper rivets and was able to punch out the torn area in order to re-form the holes for the bigger shafts. Turned out a first rate job. I've been looking for two days and can't find that site!
